ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR 3 WOODS???

I'm reluctant. I've been playing for a year and the 15deg. warbird i have is a straight shooter. I also have a 5 wood but replaced it with a versatile taylormade raylor. I'm hitting a taylormade r9 460. (no im not ALL taylormade) but when i come up to this particular hole at my local course, off the drive shooting up over a hill then back down and over a pond to a far away par 5 green, i find myself laying up. One time i hit a solid drive and cleared my second with the warbird by about 10 yards. But even if i hit it well, it never felt like i was going to make it.

Just need a suggestion for a 3 wood with increased distance without loosing control. im more of a control player anyhow and i like the lower profile woods that are great for tight lies. Just need to get a replacement for "the ole' bird" that i can hit for accuracy on tight fairway tee shots without sacrificing loads of yardage, while great in the same ways off the hard pan.

Thank you everyone

My adams insight bty 13* 3 wood is a bomber and easy to hit off the deck. However, if you have trouble getting the ball up in the air, this isn't the club for you.

I use a Bobby Jones/Jesse Ortiz 17° wood that is great off of tight lies, has a low profile, and gets the ball in the air very easily.  There are also 13°, 15°, and 19° models.

Have you considered reshafting the Warbird? If the head is still in good shape, you might consider it. The rounded sole lessens chance of turf drag.

I'll recommend the G15 3 or 4 wood.  I have the 4 wood and it's a monster, stupid easy to hit.  Longer off the tee than my old Callaway BB 3 wood and WAY easier to hit off the deck.  I have the stock Ping shaft and it launches it pretty high but it works for me, others would probably benefit from a different shaft.

I found an outdoor range with lots of demos and tried a bunch of makes and models and ended up with a Titleist 910F. Took my snap hook misses out of my potential outcomes list. Was playing a 3 year-old Callaway something. The 910F is new for me but I have confidence that I am likely to hit it straight off the tee. That is why I switched.

Yep, the Ping G15 4 wood is my favorite new club. "Stupid easy to hit" is the best way to describe it. I even hit this thing off the deck better than my 7 wood and it goes almost as far as my driver.

i actually enjoy the shaft alot (rch 90 "firm") the club head just doesn't have that face technology were seeing like variable face or even "hot face".

ive been looking at a few options. adams f11 Ti which stands for the beta titanium design. the r9 3 wood which is really hard to find anymore (hate the white crown) and then theres slightly older clubs like the burned tour launch or high launch woods. r7 cgb max which i like alot the red crown reminds me of my old wilson deep red II distance driver. Callaway steelhead (not sure which one of many is the best) or even the hawkeye. the reason i got the raylor is because when i hit it flush the thing doesn't only CRUSH it. It feels like it crushed it...like the ball is launching off the face. i like that feeling and I'm reading up that most modern clubs have a "variable face" which still have that hot face feel on off center hits but ON CENTER hits are very distinct. i think the VF design is to increase sweet spot size and also not lose distance on off center hits while making center contact very distinct. not much into the recent callaway models.

the big clubs i was hoping to hear some feedback on were tour edge exotics, taylormade r7 cgb max, r9 woods, adams f11 (if anybody realizes adams is legit haha) or the older TM burners like the ones with the dual crown design, struggling to find the burner tour launch. But im not an incredibly strong swinger but i know they made those shafts super lightweight like around 50g so possibly a stiff will work nicely. so either Tour Launch or High Launch but i dont want such a high launch off the tee that i lose distance. Suggestions. I'll even accept any ideas from any other clubs that you guys have used that i didnt mention. After all, were "the trap"....we stick together am I right?

if i had not found my r9 460 driver for 125 bucks i would have definitely went with the g15 driver. I hit one...its sooo stable and at contact is incredibly powerful. Just pounds the hell out of the ball. But im glad theres a ping fan out there...just been too shy to pull the trigger myself

If the RCH 90 is 90 grams, that's a pretty heavy shaft. If you could reshaft in 65 or even 70 grams, you should pick up some clubhead speed and distance.

Tour Edge has been around for more than 20 years and has its own R&D; shop. The Exotics metal woods have a cult following among better amateurs in the Midwest. See if you can find last year's model, because the current line costs $290++ per wood. ( Note: The new Exotics Trilogy line only costs $199 per club new).

I played the Tour Edge BetaTi Bazookas from 2002 to 2008. Interesting low-profile heads (different than Adams Tight Lie) in 14* and 19*. Ball came off really hot on draws, or could land softer with a fade. Quit playing them mainly because I went from stiff back to regular shafts. TE makes good stuff!

Check out the Tour Edge site, and register to win an Exotics FW! http://www.touredge.com/index.asp

Also take a look at the Ping K15 3W . It has 16* loft - a little help - and really felt solid for a regular-flex shafted club. (Not sure what flex you prefer)

Titleist 910f 15*.

I went through this phase about 3 months ago - I hit every single 3 wood (15*) my shop had, total of about 9. I hit adams, taylormade, cobra, titleist, mizuno, and a bunch of others.. for the most part all the new "technology" will have similiar distance. The largest distance gap from longest to shortest was about 9 yards, but when I'm hitting my 3-wood 290 I'm more concerned with control. The 910f was the most consistent and easy to control. It has that slick low-profile, felt great and sounded amazing. Your best option is to get your top 3-5 choices, take them to the launch monitor at your local shop and compare your results. Good luck.

Definitely track down a Tour Edge Exotics CB2 3 Wood but stay with the 15*.

Has been my go to club for 3-4 years now.

Longer than long and actually not hard to hit.

The old CB2 models (2nd generation) had a red X on the bottom.

I know many people use the newer generations but I found them too light?

They do make GEO Max series that is very good as well.

I can almost guarantee you will be only guy playing Tour Edge...

Originally they were VERY pricey because of the technology & lifetime warranty.

Even their 2 material grips were new at the time....

Bottomline:  Good stuff, just not easy to find.

Driver :T Edge CB-1 or Cally Mini Driver 14* or GBB 11*
Tour Edge CB2 15* 3 wood (Best Club Ever!)

Callaway XR 5Wood (New BCE!)

Hybrids: Nike SQ 23*  Tour Edge 28*

Irons: TMade RAC  7-PW   T Flight 56 SWedge
Putter: Odyssey 2 Ball Blade, SStroke flatside to hole

After reading your coment, i checked it out.
i noticed the whole innovation by T.E.E. R&D; team in the cb line of clubs starting with the cb2. "Combo Brazing" which takes away the heavy welding process allowing more weight to be moved in desired areas (low+back=deep). "Cup face" is light yet pounds the ball making the face incredibly hot. I know lately in the past 2 or 3 years that tour edge's exotics line has caught the entire golf world by storm with their woods line so i was skeptical of an older club like the cb2 that you mentioned but i went straight to the largest golf outlet in the states....Ebay haha.

I found a lightly used 15deg exotics cb2 for $99.00 (plus shipping). TBC.....

i googled the club for reviews and more commonly got golfreview.com which i figured would show up. It only had 7+ or so reviews but all of them were 5 stars. so i felt comfortable with the possibility of getting a cb2

back to Ebay. I amazingly ignored the taylormade r9 13deg stiff for 130+ship (which i had been in a agonizing search to match my r9 460) and also ignored the older taylormade burner T/S 3w. and pulled the trigger on the cb2. but why? it had a FUJIKURA MOTORE F1 "STIFF PLUS" (slightly stiffer than regular which works just perfect for me).

Was it a good buy? i know the F1 series of the motore was a tour preferred shaft in the taylormade r9 woods line which made it much more expensive. But either way a near mint cb2 15deg with new black widow grip sounds like a good buy on the hunch that the fuji motore f1 is one of the "headies" in terms of shaft quality. GOOD BUY TO ME =D

thoughts?

Easy to pick the ball off the fairway and hit as true and straight as anything out there...maybe more so. The shaft i liked because i had good weight and allowed alot of consistency. Im sure if i reshafted them to a lighter shaft unlike the RCH 90 id hit farther but with these its only the club head. When you hit them it isn't a sensation that you hit a good shot, its more visual. Always feels solid at contact but a good shot can only be seen and not felt. Which is why i was looking for something that had that common description by everyone as "hot". I know tour edge is the leader in that sensation and they don't lie to you...if its hot its not only hot...its LONGGGGG. and recently companies have been going after this. the year of the wedge is over. its all about the woods and i know ADAMS is making there new f11 woods with that velocity slow technology much like the nike VR compression channel. Almost using the space as a way to make the face more springy. And even the more expensive version f11 ti (beta titanium) id love to hit it just once. But in short (somewhat), its the sensation and feel of contact im looking for. so when i crush a ball and it fades right, i know everything was right accept my hands being open or an in/out swing. Dont get my wrong im keeping those warbirds and might reshaft them for my dad whose in his 50s and starting up golfing again after 5 years cause ive taken up the game.

i forgot to mention...could this be the club you were referring to?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=300571484687&ssPageName;=STRK:MEWNX:IT

i apologize if the listing does not show because i ended up buying it but it has that distinct exotics "red X" on the bottom. Tour Edge Exotics on the toe and in the back of the club a pretty mean lookin "exotics" where you can clearly see the weight that has been pushed far back and deep. so anxious the guy can't find the tracking number (simple mistake he 100% with over 1000 sales) and im just wanting to hit it. I know for a fact that the 9 hole course i play at that if i have this club on a particular par 5 i wont have to hit either my taylormade raylor (5 wood replacement) or my nike procombo (sort of 3 iron replacement which could very well the most underrated hybrid ever)...lookin to green in 2 over the water with this bad boy..

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
