John Daly dressing like that doesn't bother me in the slightest. I don't know that I like it but I definitely know I don't dislike it.

I think there are some occasions in your life where you have at least to try to dress properly... I think this is just making you ridiculous in front of everyone... IMHO

John Daly isn't going to wear a suit to these gatherings. He's a blue-collar guy who isn't going to dress up just because he won a golf tournament 20 years ago. If he's going to buck the social norm, he's much better off standing out (by being the guy daring enough to wear an outrageous outfit, and look good doing it) than sticking out (as the guy who's dressed differently than the rest of the crowd because he doesn't care how he looks).

I think it's good to have someone in the game that thumbs their nose at what is expected. Way too many stuffed shirts around that try to ruin the game of golf IMO. Like the guy who asked Fowler to turn his cap around.

What do you think of Tiger back there? Looks like a sports jacket, unbuttoned shirt and no tie.

That is dressed properly for JD. What is the problem anyway? That he doesn't look like everybody else? I think you may be the only one to take issue with this.

Tiger needs to hire a style consultant. The difference between him and JD is the difference between not giving a crap and making a great effort to seem like you don't give a crap (when you really do).

Pardon me but I think that will all that pink matching, this time JD looks like somebody making a great effort to seem like you don't give a crap! :D

A formal event should require formal attire; however, as shades9323 said, that's formal attire for John Daly...

Tiger BTW has a very mediocre style about him.  For some reason, I'm more thrown off by him.

I'm surprised they're not wearing dinner suits, these things have protocols about them, and one is you wear a suit. Tiger is black so obviously he can pull off an off-white suit because it contrasts with his skin colour. For once couldn't they just wear a black suit? Every golf club formal dinner you wear either a lounge suit or dinner suit, no one person gets special concessions because they are different.

I pretty much agree with you but Daly wearing what he's wearing isn't much of a surprise and most just accept it I guess.

I just don't get it... is it that difficult for people to wear black suit, white shirt and tie of their choices? Tiger looks like "cool suit fail" while JD looks like the laundry guy of the AAC...

I know people don't care because they have a chip on their shoulder about these sorts of things, but dressing completely different to everyone else (not just talking a black tie instead of bow tie which is frowned upon in itself at formal dinners) more or less shows you don't care and show little respect for the occasion. Bad form in my book.

Have you been to a PGA champions dinner? I haven't, but from the looks of it, it doesn't look like it is all that formal. Not like say a ball or something. It is just a dinner for past champions. I doubt it is really "formal".

What does not caring about this have to do with a chip on a shoulder?
