I'm in the market for a new set of irons to replace my 3 year old MX-19's (perfectly good clubs, but not really what I need anymore)

I've tried quite a few and ended up with the Razr X Tour's, the CG16 Tour's and the R9 TP's

Others that look attractive are the Idea Black CB2's - but being in the UK, I can't find anywhere to hit them!

Has anyone used any of these irons, and what do you think about them? Or do you have any other suggestions?

PS - I'm trying to stay south of £600 (about $1,000) if possible

I attempt to get round with:

 SL290 Driver, 9*, 43S Shaft

 FL Fairway, 15*, 43S Shaft

Burner Superfast 2.0 Hybrid, 18*, Reg. Shaft

CG16 Tour Black Pearl Irons, FST KBS Tour Reg+ Shafts

CG16 Black Pearl 48-8* Wedge

CG15 52-10*, 58-10*, 60-8* Wedges

Method 001 Putter

I personally don't care for any of them, but if those were my only choices, I'd go with the Callaway's. The other ones have trendy finishes on them that'll end up looking dated long before their time. Unless I'm picturing the wrong irons - how about posting some pics?!?

For $1000 you could build 3 or 4 sets.

Just a suggestion.

I have a single CG16 won in a competition and it's a great club! I've not hit the others, however if the craftsmanship in my JPX 800 driver and 3W are anything to go by I'd take a look at the irons too. If there's somewhere near you that stocks Yonex VMS irons I'd say give them a whack; the ball feels like butter off the face, they're long and they're a great club; well worth trying out to see how you get on.

I'm not sure if US stores and ebay are an option for you, but as others have stated there are some good deals to be had on older models for significantly less money.  Rockbottom golf is selling new 2009 x-forged 3-PW for $299, and ebay has some of their top rated sellers offering new X-22 Tours for under $300 and new / slightly used Mizuno MP-53's for around $450.   If you want forged irons, you might also consider waiting a month or two when Titleist and Mizuno have their new models in stores which should drop the price of their current models pretty significantly.

Of the ones you listed I like the Razr X Tours.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

All of them are great irons, Id probably go with the Clevelands if it were me.  You also might want to consider a set of Mizuno MX-200s, MX-300s, JPX-800s or JPX-800 Pros.

Personally, I'd go with the CG16's or the Adams. However, as a few folks have mentioned, you could probably snag two solid sets of sticks for the $1k you are looking to spend on one. Also, I'm not sure if you have any interest in blades, but I'd highly recommend giving the Cleveland CG Tours a test drive. Very nice club that can be had for around $400-$500 (3-pw) even less used. This way you would have two sets of clubs to choose from...blades or a set of aggressive CB! If I could swing it, this is what I'd do.

Good luck with your choice!

so many options besides those for a g ball. I would buy a set that maybe you need to grow into instead of getting something you are going to replace again as you get better still. if I were to drop a grand on forged I would go mizuno or titleist.

I love my CG16 Tours. I was fitted for these about a month ago and they've been a great set of sticks. My first choice after the fitting was the CB2. However, the CB2 is being phased out and there were no lefty sets available at the time. So, I went with the Clevelands. I have no regrets.

Happiness is a long walk with a putter.
