Seems a screenplay has been drafted and a producer is lined up.  I've never been a huge fan of golf movies, other than Caddyshack , but a biopic of Seve could be good.  Who's going to play Seve?

more importantly, who's going to play Mac O'Grady? lol

Sergi Lopez.

After Arni,  Seve probably brought as much attention to the game as anybody I can think of.  I know he was a strong presence on the course right when I was in my late teen/early 20's years and definitely caused my interest in the game to increase.  He had a very strong personality and intensity, choosing an actor that can pull that off will be a tough choice.

I don't think there will be much interest in a movie about Seve in the USA.  Spain definitely and maybe some of europe, but that's about it.

If this movie is made, USA box office $$ will be minimal.

The link says it's about his "formative years" and then all the suggestions are of actors who are in their late 40s and 50s. Terrible suggestions. Just get an unknown actor who doesn't look like a clown with a golf club in his hands.

I wonder who will play the young, eccentric Phil McGleno. Hopefully a comedian.

I'm a sucker for golf movies as much as the next golf junkie.  With that said, I can't say that I'm interested in a movie about Seve.  He wasn't exactly a popular player stateside..........

Lots of golfers in the U.S. Canada and the U.K. and Australia and just about anywhere would love to see a movie about golf.  There hasn't been one for a long time.  This one would be more of a documentary like the one about Hogan.

I hope they pick a golfer to play the part.  If not then Jack Nicholson.

You might be right about box office in the U.S. That's mainly the young crowd that wouldn't relate to Seve.

But then there are rentals and online viewing.

There has actually. Seven Days in Utopia was a complete bust. Movie studios tend to shy away from entire niche genres like golf when they're constantly failing at the box office.

Now that said, I'm right there with you, I'd watch any golf related movie. I'm a sucker for all things golf myself.

Trailer for the Seve movie

Pretty cool they got a good player to play young Seve, pic below looks very much like his followthrough

I would definitely watch it, but probably wait for video. I just don't go to the theater much except for the occasional James Bond or something the boss of the house drags me to. I am a Seve fan. When I was young, he was the one to follow at a tournament because the women followed him! A true fact, but seriously he was fun to watch and see some of those famous escapes up close. I once walked with him from green to tee, and he was quite friendly.

I'm sure if Hollywood gave it their usual treatment they could rewrite the history so that America actually wins the Ryder Cup and then you could all go along and enjoy, celebrate, and believe it. Usually works!!!

Please will someone explain why Seve isn't popular in the USA? I'm struggling to believe it could really have anything to do with him beating you with such frequency in Ryder Cups could it? I mean, the likes of John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors could hardly be described as corinthian in their sporting outlook, but remained hugely popular in the UK
