time to chose a winter ball..

Im mostly looking at just what I can get locally. I typically play the srixon z star x. driving swing speed is 114 - 116.

Anyone care to compare the wilson 50 elite, srixon ad333, top flite d2 feel and noodle easy distance?

Silly question as I normally use the same ball all year round but is temperature the main reason to have a "winter" ball? e.g. the ball will be far colder and thus have less compression?

I use the ProV1x year round unless the course is extremely wet/cold then I switch to the NXT Tour.

hey guys, biggest reason is that we will play year round unless there is snow. Ive played in 95 degree weather with humidity so high it feels like 115, and as cold as 25 degrees.

It seems like I lose 10 - 15 yards in the winter (id assume its because the cold air is denser), and the ball compresses less. A tour ball with uerethane cover isnt really needed in the winter months, because of how soft, wet, and slow the greens are. Ive narrowed it down between the ad333 where i can get a 50 count bucket for $30, or the wilson zip where I can get a 24 pack for $19. Anyone played both balls? any opinions?

Once we get into leaf season, or crazy cold....I buy Slazengers in a bag or play with whatever junk, rock ball I can find.

Everything's so damned soft anyway once we hit November in Ohio, there's not an incredible difference. It's much harder to shape a shot, and you'll occasionally get more inconsistencies, but it's not that big of a deal. I'd love to use an AD333 or a DT Solo (I prefer the AD333, by the way...if we're "talkin' junk") but who cares! Junk is junk. Sh*t is sh*t. I'd rather just spend as little as possible and play a simplified game. Playing with a rock really is nice because you have to be really smart about how you play approach shots because if you shortside yourself you're really, really dead with a ball that doesn't spin.

Srixon Q-Star.  Its the best, "distance" ball Ive ever played and theres really nothing that compares to it.

I agree with lefty, almost anything will do at least up here in the Pacific Northwest, so cold and wet anyway, just fun to get out and play.  ball flights and distances are greatly reduced

I normally start each round with a new ball.  Then I switch over to 'old' balls -- ones that made it through a round or ones that I found in the woods when looking for my invariably sliced tee shots.  ;)  Now that it's cold, I just start with the 'old' balls.  I figure - doesn't matter. I just want to get out and play.  (Hellow 30s with wind and course to myself!)

I play crap 'found balls' in the winter.  If the course is in crappy/winter condition, I don't see the point in using good balls this time of year.  The greens are either mushy or frozen, and at the very best they will be slow and bumpy from not being rolled/mowed in weeks or months.....what is the advantage of a performance ball?

When I find crap balls during peak season, I save them for the winter.........

Breaking out a brand new golf ball of any kind when the course is in complete crap winter/condition makes no sense to me.....

I usually have some D2 feels floating around that I will use during the winter like everyone else said it's usually so soft spin doesn't matter. Now with that said I haven't switched this winter yet because it's been so mild in MD.

If it's below freezing.....balls get brittle and can break.  I've seen some funny break-age over the years...LOL

With that said, from the tee.....there is no benefit to playing a good ball in the winter.  The main benefit to a good ball is it's reaction on the greens.  If it's a  lousy/winter green.....any benefit of a performance ball is lost.  If it's a slow shaggy winter green, you might as well play any found ball...........
