And they are killing my feet! I have like cuts on the back of my feet and the sides. How long do you guys think it will take to break them in? I've only played 9 holes with them. They are Callaway by the way.

I have a golf match tomorrow, I don't want to wear them if they are going to kill my feet. I'm gonna go out and play now with them on, hopefully I'll be alright.

This may sound stupid, but it really isn't...Are they the right size? I know that certain styles of shoes I fit better a half size larger.

You are right about that. Golf shoes do not size out the same as regular shoes.
In Nike I wear a 13 shoe and a 11.5 golf shoe.

there was a story once that when they tour rep measured John Daly that he was wearing a size 12 but needed a size 9

I have a pair of Oakley golf shoes that did the same thing to me. It took a while to break them in since they rubbed me so bad I couldn't wear them for long periods of time. I finally took them home and walked around the house and did yardwork in them. That and about 72 holes walking and 3 boxes of bandaids did the trick. Although I probably wouldn't ever buy a pair of Oakley golf shoes.

It has nothing to do with being the wrong size. It's just the fact they are new so they are stiff and give u blisters and stuff thats what i mean..

o well ill go wit em in my match tomorrow and see what happens lol

It used to take me a few rounds to break in golf shoes until I tried a pair of Footjoy e-Comfort brand shoes. It's not their top of the line but they are so comfortable from day 1. That's the only brand I have bought the last several years.

I tried my dads golf shoes on once and they killed my feet the whole round, i hate cuts also. Never put them on since, they shouldnt do that. Just bought some nice new ones and they fit fine first time. I would take them back and try fitting in a new pair.

I know that this sounds odd but it worked for me with a pair of shoes before I got the SP8-TW's, which fit perfect without being stretched...But you need to have at least 24-36 hours. Take two zip-lock baggies and fill them full of water (you may want to double bag them to prevent leakage) and then place them in the front half of your shoes and place them in the freezer. When the water freezes it will expand and stretch the shoe out just enough to give you a perfect fit.

It may be that this particular brand just isn't good on your feet. My first pair of golf shoes were Nike's and they really weren't that comfortable. No cuts or abrasions but my feet tended to ache after a few holes. I replaced them with a pair of Footjoys and they were comfortable from the first day. I know, the Footjoy name is hokey (sounds like something your grandmother might wear) and all things being equal I'd like to have the swoosh or the three stripes on my feet, but not at the expense of comfort.

I think these days it doesn't make much sense to suffer through a long break in period on shoes, especially with today's technology. The only exception to this might be really high end hiking boots. Here in NH there is a legendary boot maker - Peter Limmer & Sons, who would custom fit and make hiking boots. The waiting list to have the boots made, as I recall, was often up to a year, and the break in period was almost as long, but baby, once you got past it, you would never give up your Limmers. But I don't think this should be necessary for most other types of shoes.

Sadly, I don't think Limmer makes custom boots anymore - they just slap their name on some other manufacturers boot. The price of progress.

Sizing is incredibly important on a golf shoe. They're more rigid than, say, a sneaker and you typically do a lot more walking (and on hills, too!). A golf shoe can't be "tightened down extra" or "left loose" quite as easily as a sneaker.

I wear a 10.5 medium (width) in the FootJoy GF:II. The first FootJoy ReelFit I got (10.5M) gave me blisters like crazy. I went down half a size to 10M and the ReelFit fits beautifully. My sneakers are size 11 and, likewise, fit just fine, even loosely tied. I've also found that I can't really wear certain brands. Adidas shoes just don't seem to fit me very well (or their sizing is off and I've never gotten the right size). I haven't tried Nike shoes. But for others, they can't wear Nike but Adidas shoes always fit them well. To each his own.

It isn't the wrong size or the type of shoe. It's just they a little stiff. Same thing happened to my dad in college, he played with them for the first time during a 36 hole tournament and had to take them off and played in his socks.

Well then - you've got the right size and the right type - so you should be all set. Good luck in your tournament! The shoes will probably eventually break in (or perhaps your feet will eventually conform to them).

In the spirit of BillBill's post, let me offer another off the wall suggestion. A friend of mine from out west swears that the only way to break in western boots is to put them on barefoot, jump into a hot shower, and spend about 15 minutes or so just letting things soak in. To make the time pass more quickly, he recommends having your wife, girlfriend or other beautiful woman take the shower with you. She'll understand. Then he takes them off, empties them out, stuffs them with newspaper and let's them dry out (takes about a week). He then applies some leather conditioner and voila, perfectly fit boots.

Not sure whether this works on golf shoes, and I'm guessing you'll void any warranty but if after months of break in they still hurt, what do you have to lose?

I've pretty much worn Nike my whole life and I always needed a few rounds to break them in. I picked up a pair of Adidas 360 over the winter and I've had no problem with them at all. Very comfortable.
