Pinehurst Question...

Which is better...

Honestly I live here and have played number 2 a few times.  For the price its not worht it at all.  They think they are pebble beach but, they are not.  It's nothing special except its held a few majors.  I actually like number 6, 4, and 8 the same as number 2.  You would be better off playing somewhere else.  Tobacco is a favorite around here and especially with tourist you will like that alot.  As for another great course if you can get out and play would be Dormie.  The same guys who re did #2 designed that course.

The changes did make it a little more nice but, we usually don't play there often just because I think there are nicer courses in the area and the price there is just insane for what you get.  Buddy of mine lives on pine needles and I also like it more myself.  I think the Dormie club is better than both and If I had the option I would play it before #2 and I believe this is the last year you can before it goes completely private.

Not to hijack this thread, although that's exactly what I'm doing, we're doing a 4 day trip to Pinehurst at the end of April and need one more course.  So far we're got Legacy, Hyland, Foxfire East and West, Pinehurst 1 and Whispering Pines.  I've played Pinehurst 3, 5 and 8 before and really don't want to pay for 2.  I've also played Pine Wild and Southern Pines in the area, as well as Tobacco Road.  I was wondering if anyone could offer up an opinion for our last round of the trip?  Trying to stay under $150.  Dormie Club might be a little high but I'm trying to pressure the other guys into it.  Didn't realize I've played so many courses down there until just typing that out.  Thanks!

Country Club of North Carolina has 2 great courses - Dogwood and Cardinal...both are excellent. Private club, but if you can find your way on (have your club pro call perhaps) it is well worth it. Have not played #2, but as mentioned above, Dormie is a gem.
