I had played 3 rounds of 9 hole golf, my 4th time playing i played the full 18, my dad drove the cart and kept sore I shot a 102 playing from the tip tees, is that good since its only my 4th time playing actual golf?

Are you from Kentucky?
How old are you?
I ask the age because if you're a youngster, and have decent distance..keep on playing the tips, IMO.  If you can get used to the distance at an early age..its only going to help you as you go along.
102 from tips(depending on the course) is not bad for a 4th time out playing golf.

My philosophy on golf "We're not doing rocket science, here."

When you say 'tips', do you mean the front or the back? Either way, 104 is a great score over 18 for your 4th round. Great job.

Did you count lost balls, penalty strokes, etc, etc?

Either way, its all about having fun. How old are you? You should get your dad playing as well. He will enjoy it, and its great to do together. My dad is my favorite golf partner. He's going through cancer treatments now, and it hurts to not have him there on the course with me every Sunday. Get your dad into the game, neither of you will regret it.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Ditto. Best advice I've seen yet reading these boards.

That's not a bad score, keep at it!

This is good advice , white is normally the middle set of tees.

I just got my daughter to start playing. I enjoy going so much more now. I agree that you should get your Dad to go with you.

I counted every stroke I made, including the one out of bounds drive. On the other hand my Dad does play on that day tho he wasn't felling well, hes taught me alot, he use to play pretty well, I know its very fun the previous three rounds we played in a foursome with my friend and his father, even tho i shot in the high 50's each time on 9 it was still fun, on the back 9 we played agianst my friend and his dad playing best ball. I enjoy golf and i would play every day if i could.

102 would be an amazing score on a par 3 course with that amount of experience. Please identify the golf course.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I don't care for the course at all its nothing compared to what my dad built... but its Fox Hollow in Glasgow ky its a short course but it makes up with the smallest greens iv'e ever seen.

That's an amazing score for your experience. I looked up the course and saw it's a par 70, but didn't find a scorecard or slope/rating. Regardless of the course stats, that's a really good score. I'd move up to the equivalent of the white tees (~5,400 yards) until you're more consistent. You'll enjoy it more as you learn.

you really shouldn't be worrying about score in your first year of playing golf.

Focus on:

-  hitting the ball solid

-  proper etiquette, and

-  getting par putts

You should be able to get near the green in two on most holes, and then pitch/chip on and have a look at par on most holes.  If you can get into this routine, you can usually break 100 the majority of rounds and break 90 quite a bit.

Worrying about score this early in your career might make you lose focus on the little things that will eventually bring your score down much more than what you have set as your goals right now.

By the way, I doubt your 102 was a legitimate 102 from the tips in your fourth round ever unless you are playing a super easy course.  You probably had a few "gimmes" on five foot putts that you might not be that proficient at yet, and you probably lost some balls and didn't count the penalty strokes properly.  Lots of beginners get so focused on score early that they start giving themselves putts, don't treat lost balls propertly and take mulligans.  Don't let yourself fall into that habit.

Not the high school I went to.  Varsity golfers could all shoot in the low 80's.  A few guys close to scratch too.

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
