Scottie Scheffler of Dallas Highland Park fired off two 61s in one week to break two course records....and he's only 16 years old!  Wow!  I couldn't imagine going that low at that age....or any age for that matter.  Not to mention the fact that on the back 9 of the Northwood Course, he only needed 8 putts to get the job done.  How about that?  8 putts!

Quote:

Playing with friends on his birthday last Thursday, Scheffler shot 10-under 61 at Northwood, breaking the course record held by Hunter Mahan. This came exactly one week after Northwood celebrated the 60th anniversary of hosting the 1952 U.S. Open.

At least Scheffler paid homage, sort of, to Open champ Julius Boros by taking only eight putts on the back nine. In 1952 Boros had 11 putts on the back nine in the morning round then one-putted seven of the final nine greens in the afternoon.

Two days after scorching Northwood, Scheffler shot 9-under 61 at Dallas Country Club, matching the mark set recently by Kelly Kraft on the remodeled layout.

That's amazing.  I wonder what effect that had on his handicap.

At Hunt Valley Golf Club we had a 5 handicap drop a 60.  The dude hit a long ball.  Was playing the blue and white nines.  Went out in 27 and came back in 33.  Hole in one on the first hole (a par 4) followed by an eagle on the 2nd (par 5).  Eagled the other par 5 on the front too.  3 putted the last hole for a 60.  They still have his scorecard and a newpaper clipping about it hanging in the locker room.

One in a billion.  From what I've heard about the guy he could go out one day and shoot mid 60's and then 85 the next.  Very hot and cold.

States he is a +2 handicap so he probably is not hitting too many errant rounds

Sounds like one of the pros where I work. Guy plays a practice round and shoots 89. The next day in the tournament cards a 72.
