I'm going to be driving to the Barclays for the Sunday round with my brother.  We plan to get up early and go see the tour players at the range and then walk the course.  We both want to see Tiger, but I'm a bit worried about the shit show that will be around his pairing, especially if he's in contention.

Any ideas on what we should do?  Should we try and walk with him for every shot?  Should we wait a few holes ahead and move up again after he comes through?  We dont want to sit in one spot all day and wait either.  Thanks!

Stand downrange about 300 yards or directly behind the green and you'll probably get a signed glove.

No.  Yes.

If you try and walk with him on every shot, you are going to be in a massive crowd - makes no difference if he is in contention or not - and unless you are really tall, you won't get good views of him.  But if you jump a hole ahead of him each time, then you should have a chance to get some pretty good views of him playing.

Whenever I go  (Mercedes when it was at La Costa, Buick/Farmers and US Open at Torrey) I avoid Tiger just because I want to see those guys up close, and his crowds aren't worth the hassle to me.

I have done this once... never again.  It is a serious PITA.  Best way to do it IMO is to be three holes ahead and stand at the tee box.  That is the best view, then you can go a hole or two up and head out to about the landing area on the fairway ropes.  I tend to get on the right side as that is where most pros miss, but Tiger has been fighting the lefties so left might be your best bet.  Avoid the Par 3's period.  They are normally pretty deep for any golfer, Tiger will be stupid.

Enjoy, it is fun fighting the crowds... all to see one of the greatest to ever play

I've done this and just be prepared to sacrifice a few holes here and there. If you see him on 1 dont even think about 2, go right to the 3rd or 4th and so on.

Tiger usually has practice rounds really early in the morning - around 6 or 7 am. The crowds aren't as big during those times - maybe 2 or 3 people deep, but you can still see him. Plus, that early in the morning for a practice round, not many people will wake up early for that.

If you want to watch him at the driving range, get there at least 2 hours before his tee time an hope that he picks a spot in front of you. On the course, just plan for every other shot.

Best Regards,
Ryan

+1 on waiting along the left side of the fairway for an errant shot :) Got to stand right behind Tiger on the 12th hole of Congressional when he hit that amazing shot onto the green, where he brushed his iron up against that tree.

I saw him at the Tour Championship when it was in Houston.  We happened onto an open spot in the crowd on the 12th fairway at Champions.  He was 30 feet away from us, pulled his iron left of the green, and let out an f-bomb.

  1. Launch a website that gets several million page views per month.
  2. Get a media pass.
  3. Walk inside the ropes for 18 holes, taking care not to block anyone's views along the rope line.

Good luck.

Find a good vantage point somewhere on the back 9 prior to any of the players making it that far along in their rounds.  Stay there and let all the golfers come to you.  The herd following Tiger starts showing up a good 2 or 3 holes prior to him coming through, so being there ahead of time is crucial.  This has always worked for me Sunday's at the Masters.
