I am trying to decide which ones are right for me. I don't officially have a HCP. I typically shoot in the 80's and getting to play my irons puts a smile on my face. I have gamed the TM MC's with S300 all last year and had no issues ever hitting any one of them. I often replaced my driver with the 3 iron for more accuracy and control. I practice almost daily for an hour and play as much as I possibly can. I don't work the ball as much as some people would say they do except for shot trajectory.

I am looking for some advice from someone who knows a little about the two sets in terms of forgiveness and such. Normally I'd consult a Maltby table for official numbers but the Rockebladez TOUR are not there yet. I hit the AP2's for a few hours this weekend at an indoor facility and I really liked them a ton, I've been contemplating either the Rocketbladez Tour or the AP2's. Can anyone give any advice between the AP2 712's and the Rocketbladez TOUR in terms of forgiveness?

your looking at the wrong clubs if you want forgiveness. these clubs are made for better players. the rocketballz tour will hit the ball higher and have more foregivess between the two. The AP2 is made for better players that can work the ball. if you are able to work the ball, you don't need forgiveness.  forgiveness will straighten out what your trying to do on purpose if you know how to shape your shots.

Hi RichardR, I am not looking for forgiveness explicitly. What I am wondering is who hit the AP2's 712's and Rocketbladez Tour side by side and can speak about the forgiveness between them? or can compare the AP2's to the TM MC's? I hit the RBladez Tour and found them a ton forgiving but I also found a few issues with them. I preferred the AP2's 712's by a long shot and I am looking to trust another brand other than TMaG as I've been playing TMaG for the past 7 years, I don't think I actually ever had a different set of irons other than TaylorMade.

Like I said, I played TM MC's which is actually less forgiving and playable than the 2 sets I listed but I am reluctant to simply switch to AP2's because it's a new brand and I am much less familiar with Titleist than TMaG. I have a VERY hard time putting something called "Rocketbladez" Tour with this "speed pocket (tm)" in my bag this year and my MC's are gone now and were in need of a replacement.

out of those 2, I would go with the AP2. before that i suggest you go hit them at your local golf course or store and see how you like both of them. rocketbladez has more foregiveness then the AP2. I also suggest you try out the mizuno and adams irons. they also received the gold award. hit them 1st before you buy it. pick the one that gives you more confidence, you will know when you hit it. good luck and let me know which one you go with.

I was going to get AP2's to replace my 755's... then the RBZ Tour's came out and looked great so I was leaning towards those... then I hit the Callaway X-Hot Pro's and bought those instead.  In my opinion, the XHP's are more forgiving than both the AP's and RBZ Tour's, look just as nice, and feel great.  I did get KBS shafts put in as the stock one was too light for my taste.  I'd recommend giving the Callaways a try...

Big clubs: :titleist: 915D3 @ 9.5°, :callaway: X-Hot Pro 3W
Med clubs: :callaway: X-Hot Pro 5W, :titleist: 910H 4H,
Small clubs: :callaway: X-Hot Pro 5-AW, :titleist: Vokey 55.10, 60.10

I've been testing the RocketBladez Tour irons for a few weeks now. They're plenty forgiving, I can assure you. They also have a very nice "pop" feel off the face and it really seems like the ball explodes. The RocketBladez Tour are plenty nondescript in the bag (since it seems you're worried about that some). The speed pocket thing doesn't really jump out at you, and the head is mostly grey on grey on grey.

In my bag:

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | 15º 3-Wood: Ping G410 | 17º 2-Hybrid: Ping G410 | 19º 3-Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Lo |4-PW Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo | 54º SW, 60º LW: Titleist Vokey SM8 | Putter: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

After reading through this thread I think that you guys have answered my questions.

My dad is looking to get new irons.  His Hogans are in need of retirement badly.  Anyways he regularly shoots in the 80's, and prefers his clubs about 1/2 an inch long.  He is going to go to a demo day at the course to hit some clubs before making a purchase, and to get the right custom fit.

My brother and I both play the AP2's and he likes those, but also wanted to know what else was in that play ability range.

So I've gathered that the TM Rocketbladez, AP2's and Callaway XHot Pro's are all in the same boat?

Any others that would be worth taking a look at?

Driver: Titleist D3 9.5, Project X
3 Wood: Adams Tight Lies
Irons: Titleist AP2
Wedges: 51 Degree Cleveland, 54 and 58 Degree CG 15
Putter: Ping Kushin (Old School Baby!)

After more research I see the Mizuno JPX 800 Pro's and Mizuno MP-53 fall in this same category as well.

Mizuno MP-53 with an MOI of 13.4066

Mizuno JPX 800 Pro with an MOI of 13.2760

Titleist AP2 712 with an MOI of 13.1825

TaylorMade TP MC has an MOI of 13.0473

Mizuno MP-59 with an MOI of 12.08340

Titleist CB 710 with an MOI of 11.6609

Rocketbladez Tour no MOI data yet

Callaway X Hot pro no MOI data yet

To put that in perspective how the above measures up with a true MB Mizuno MP-69 has an MOI of 11.67670

I'd have to guess the RBladez Tour and Callaway XHot Pro will be roughly the same as the MP-53's in terms of playability and MOI. Of course a lot of other factors come into play.

So I am in the unique position to comment on some of these clubs. Until last week had been playing the MP-H4 for 3 mos. Before that I played the XHot Pros. Callaway's are longer and stronger. Not fair to compare. Before that it was the 825 Pro. So so was my feeling about thoase and the entire JPX line. They were easily escorted from the bag by the Callys. Got a 913 driver and while not the longest driver I've ever hit, it is the straightest and most reliable I've ever had. Followed by 3 and 5 and then hybrids 3,4 and strangely enough a 5. Back and forth between the MP=H4 5 hybrid iron and the Tite 5 hybrid. Got to thinking about the clubs I played when I most frequently broke 80. The original AP2s. My mission was to find a set of 712s which I did. Bought on Ebay for 1/2 price. Seller was late shipping and in the interim I found a set of RBTs. I'm a graphite guy so I had to reshaft them. The Tites came with graphite. I'm a 10 or so and here's my conclusion. The AP2 is actually easier to hit and to hit straight. While the TM is a bit longer (not much) the AP2's are easier to play and more predictable.

Trevor if your shooting 80's I would get none of the clubs you suggest... Go with a better club like callaway x forged... wilson FG forged... Titlest CB...ect Basically dont get clubs with inserts and crap big cut cavity  in the back.. Want to play better... Its the only way IMO......These for example...

Agree 100%. I'm currently playing the TM MC's and recently tried the RBz Tour and I'm getting better distance with every single club. The impact with the bladez has an amazing feel which to me is almost like a forged feel. I personally don't plan on changing my MC's for a while simply due to the fact that I prefer the trajectory I get with them over the bladez. 5-7yds to me isn't that big of a deal. I don't know if it's just me but the bladez also felt too light and I prefer the heavier irons. My take is, stick with the MC's if you can they're the right type of irons for you if you're consistently in the 80's. if they're damaged and time to replace the tour bladez would work well for you too.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
