I really need to start using GolfLogix or another digital system for tracking my game, but inevitably my cell battery is running low, or I've just got other shit to worry about instead of tapping stuff into my phone after every shot... like hitting the ball well.  Since I play so often at the same course, and usually as a single, I didn't want to carry a new scorecard every game.  Here's what I do.

Top left of the square for each hole is my FIR.  Top right is my GIR.  Bottom left is putts.  Bottom right is penalty strokes - I count my penalty strokes separately and then add them back in at the end (only the penalty itself, not the resulting separate stroke).  Score without penalties goes in the middle and score in relation to par on the hole goes just to the right of that.

Basically, it allows me to use 1 card for 6 rounds at my home course.

It sort of looks like this:

Par 4:

1        0+

4  E

1+     0

This would be a par-4.  I hit the Fairway on my tee shot, just missed the green (the + symbol means I had a putt from the fringe) and I technically 1-putted the hole (the first putt was from the fringe so my putts got listed as a 1+).  I had no penalties.

Furthermore, I've started counting my second shot on a par-5 as a FIR type shot.  In other words, I give myself two opportunities for FIR on a par-5 which gives me a clean 18 FIR attempts at the end of the round (the par-3's obviously don't have a FIR point attached to them).

Par 5:

11     0

6 +1

2      +1

In this case, I hit the fairway on my tee shot, hit the fairway on my second shot, but pumped one OB on my approach, had to rehit from that position and then 2 putted.  So I had 4 strokes to hit the green (not counting the penalty) plus the 2 putts... my penalty stroke gets added back in at the end.

I like looking at the penalty strokes separate as it allows me a better idea of how I was hitting my clubs throughout the round and gives me the "what if I hadn't duck hooked that ball OB".

I've clearly started rambling at this point.  Curious to see what others are doing.

This is way too complex for me and too time consuming. I'm very ordinary with my scoring and simply score my strokes accordingly and number of putts above, for example... 4² (4 strokes and a 2 putt). If I have a penalty, I put a small p below the ².

I do what I describe in the manual for Scorecard . It's also covered somewhere in this thread .

Basically, two boxes.

Score big in the first box. An arrow top right to indicate fairway or not (left or right arrows show the miss), and number of putts bottom right.

Second box either has a G, SS, or UD. The latter two can have a line through it if I fail. Then distance of first putt in feet in the bottom right.

I use Golflogix but it is difficult to play fast and play with the phone too.   If I have time, I use Golflogix but I just use a score card and instead of other players, record fairways hit, GIR, putts, chips and penalties.

Denny- Just downloaded the app and I agree, it does look like it would be time consuming and require too much screwing aroun with during a round. Maybe I'll adjust my scoring system on the card so I can go back afterwards and input it into GL. Spyder- since i do it every round, this actually takes me no time at all. When I finish putting out, I'm just adding in FIR and GIR in addition to what you're doing. I like to track it, but really don't do anything with the info anyway. At the end of a round I can say I hit X fairways and Y green with Z putts, but its not like I'm putting it into a spreadsheet later. Gonna give this golflogix a try and figure out a way not to let it be a distraction while playing.

I see what you are doing now. I was honestly thinking that you were analyzing this data while on the course. I was honestly wondering how in the hell you had time for golf, let alone concentration and focus! lol

Pretty much same as Erik.  I use the arrow with L or R and also S if I land in a fairway bunker.  Also, P for a penalty stroke.

LOL, I do something like this too. :)

Sometimes I will also break out the phone and turn on the golfshot app to keep the score while I am playing, but it's just as easy to do it afterwards.  I played twice last week - one full 18 on Thursday, and one pitch-n-putt nine on Friday - and I can still recall every single shot from both of those rounds.  Heck, my previous full 18 was on May 11, and with a little refresher from the course's website to remind myself which holes are which (it's the only time I've ever played there) I can remember all of those shots as well.

Point is, for me, it's not that important to write down 50 things on each hole as I play.  In fact, I believe its actually a detriment, because I'm inadvertently "adding up" everything as I go when I'm better off telling somebody else a number (or quickly writing it down if I have to) and then forgetting about it completely.
