Just out of interest, what is your favourite brand of golf ball? I do not really have a personal favourite, I will try any, although, besides "TA 2 ING", and "OPOW" versions, I find it difficult to hit Nike Golf balls.

So, which is your favourite?

Maxfli BlackMax, Nike TA2SPN and Black One.
With higher handicap I'd recommend less spin ball - Titleist NXT for example or (if you like them fancy) ProV1X.

Titleist Pro V1x. I've been playing Titelist since 93' and have gone from:

Balata
Professional
Pro V1
Pro V1x

I tried the Maxfli Revolutions for about 2 weeks and they spun like crazy. Went right back to the Titelists and haven't even thought about switching.

Fairways and Greens.

I like the Precept U-tri Tour best.. they feel real soft on and around the greens, hard to cut, rated longer off the driver than ProV1x and cost $10 a dozen less..

But I really don't score any better with a three piece ball over a cheaper two piece.

"Independent golf ball ratings"
rate the following as the top 4 longest off the driver

Top Flight, Infinity rating of 75
Nike, power distance rating of 70
Precept, U-tri tour rating of 60
Titlest, ProV1x rating of 55

all other balls rate 50 or under.
Driver Distance Rating: The rating assigned to the golf ball based upon a 100 point scale as derived from an average of the golf ball’s driver distance data collected by a human tester with a swing speed of 100 MPH on a launch monitor system. 5 points on the scale represents 1.5 yards difference in distance. The higher the rating, the longer the ball. An indication of the golf ball's driver distance performance.

Pro V1x. Need the distance.

I don't buy the hype. Any of the "top end" balls are very close to each other in distance. V1x has feels too hard on the green for me, I don't see no distance loss going with Blackmax, One black, HX tour... IMHO that is.

Callaway hx tours. I love this ball in the wind. I miss the softer feel of the pro v, but right now its the hx. I just glommed a dozen of the black max off of ebay for $20.00, and am hoping that it performs like the hx with a slightly softer feel.

You're kidding me. I paid $30 a dz (that includes shipping)

. Lucky dog. I think you'll enjoy it if you like HX and ProV1.

I like the Precept U-tri Tour best.. they feel real soft on and around the greens..

The only complaint I had about U-tri was the same as B330's. The metalic "click" sound off the putter, like a ping-pong ball would make. Other than that - both bridgestone(precept) products are pretty good.

I couldnt believe it! I'd forgotten all about the bid until i got an alert from ebay that i'd won the auction. I've heard a lot of great things about the max and couldnt believe that i won at that price. Over the years, maxfli has been my brand of choice. Its just that every time i fall in love with one of their brands....they quit making the damn things. I still miss the revolutions and the elites!

Top Flite Infinity and Maxfli Noodle. Hey, they can be purchased at Wal-Mart and are only about $20. That is good enough for me, as I never really cared about the kind of golf ball I hit. I'm not good enough to tell the difference anyway.

I have had the desire to buy some Maxfli Blackmax, however, at my local proshop just to say I did.

I have to go with Callaway. The HX Tour has been very solid for me over the past year-plus. And I just had the chance to try the new HX Tour 56, which should be out soon. It might even be a better ball for me. (Watch the site for a "first look" review soon.)

I really like the HX aerodynamics. Great trajectory, and really bores through the wind. I like the ProV1 on a calm day, but I have more confidence in the HX Tour at this point when the wind is up.

I have been playing the Calley Black but recently played the Black Max and must say I am really impressed with it.It is as long and maybe longer than the Calley really holds the green and seems to have less side spin than the Calley so I brought 2 dozen and am switching for now but soon the 56 ball will be here sooooooooo!

If I could afford them, I'd play ProV1's all the time as they feel great, handle wind well, spin like a mother, and go a long way when you hit em right. But I generally use a Maxfli Noodle or a Nike TA2 Spin. I bought a bunch of the Nike's on discount last fall and I've a box and a few left from that. The Nike checks up great and feels like butter. They do scuff easily. I basically look for a discount "spin" ball.

Peace.

I have never noticed that, but them my putter has a brass and non-metalic insert, so maybe that keeps it quiet.. Matter of fact even using cheap Top Flite balls that feel like rocks, my putter doesn't sound bad.

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
