  1. 1. Do you ever wear golf sandals (the ones with spikes, designed for golf), and how?

    • Yes I wear sandals, with sport socks.

    • Yes I wear sandals, but barefoot only.

    • No, I never wear sandals.

Just wondering if anyone out there wears golf sandals, and whether or not you wear socks with them.

Any other commentary about sandals is welcome...comfort, functionality, your preferences for manufacturer, etc.

I wear flip flops all the time in Summer, but absolutely not when I'm golfing. I love my DryJoys and I prefer the more traditional saddle shoe styles.

I am not down with sandals on the golf course, but I'm not against others doing so. A couple of guys in my league have those sandals that have golf spikes on them. I wear Flip-flops all the time in the summer, but I wear golf shoes to play golf. Whatever you do, no matter what, don't wear socks with sandals, ever for anything.

No sandals for me either, imagine having to go in the bunker and getting sand everywhere. Same thing for early morning wet grass.

I have a pair and love them. I don't wear them if we are playing early because of the dew, but otherwise they rock! And don't even thinkg of wearing sandals with socks!

I voted no because I do not wear sandals when I play, but that's just me. If you want to wear sandals, more power to you. Away from the course, that's all I wear all summer. As for the socks part of the survey, I wouldn't wear shorts and dress socks with sandals, but I would wear the shorty no show kind.

Ditto on every part. Saddles only on the golf course for me. I don't even like the spikes that look like sneakers.

Great thread Big Lex and glad to make this my official 1st post entry here!

I use to live on the East coast where I was all work work work and had no time to enjoy sandles. I come from a long list of none sandle lovers.

But... 7 years ago I was determined to change all that and moved to the West coast of Canada, in beautiful province of BC where all the sandle lovers seem to be! After several months of living there I met a nice friendly girl named Jeni who offered me my first pair of sandles. Jeni remained a good friend till this day and now that I'm back on the East coast I still wear my sandles every day I get the chance.

You could say I've been transformed! lol.

All kidding aside... I love my sandles but would never be caught with them on the course. Even if I was alone and the last person on earth. I just don't think it's right.

They look very comfortable but I'm in the rough - the TALL rough - way too often for sandals. I just can't see them offering enough support either, but I've never tried them on to confirm that suspicion.

I have never tried them, but my wife has a pair that she wore last year. She liked them. I like to occasionally walk through the tall stuff and into the trees looking for stray balls while waiting for others. These would prevent that.

About 10 years ago I did play with a guy that was wearing flip flops. He was a friend of one of my regular playing partners. I walk up to the tee and this guy has shoulder length hair, a light beard and flip flops. I'm thinking Jesus, litterally and figuratively, how can he play like that. Apparently pretty well. He lipped out for birdie on the last that would have given him a 1 under 34. Turns out he played professional hockey and was on the Hartford Whalers IHL affiliate. I don't know if he ever made it in the NHL, but he was a +1 handicap at the time.

I have golf sandals, and they're much more comfortable than you think. Only issues are:

* Sand traps: usually have to take them off, shake the sand out and reinstall.
* Hot days: there's one little spot I tend to get a blister after a long day of walking and sweating.

Other than that, they feel more secure than you think sandals would, provide great stability and make a significant difference in how light and cool my feet feel vs. shoes.

Nothing in the swing is done at the expense of balance.

forget that then, blisters are horrible, I forgot my socks once this season and decided to go sock less, I still have the scar from that freakin blister right on my heal, the pain for weeks after getting that was terrible....had to place a bandaid on it under my sock just to be able to work comfortably

That's what I'm screaming. I hate those tennis shoes with the spikes on the bottom. If you're going to wear golf shoes, wear real golf shoes. And under no circumstances should sandals be worn on the golf course.

Now? No way. Well, maybe on the range. Just maybe. But doubtful.

10 years ago I'd go to the range in them to tan and even out that look of "glow in the dark". That just left strap marks.

I won't now. I want everything the same when I practice, as when I play I want consistency and to get better. I want to look down at the same type of shoes at address, feel the same type of shoe base...as I do when I'm practicing.

I especially don't want to see my semi-tanned, Barney Rubble toes when I'm checking my set up and during my pre-shot. I'm trying to shave strokes -- not laugh at my own, middle-aged feet that I need to shave.

But that's just me.

    • I’ve recently started KBs too and really enjoy it. I have one day of armour building complex and one day of a mobility routine. Adding in a speed training day too.    which routines do you do @Elmer
    • Again, I’m not an expert so take it with a grain of salt My question is whether laying back even further becomes too conservative and that strategy is suboptimal as a result? Essentially what’s the cost of guaranteed longer second shot vs the x% risk for hitting the bunker? I think the optimal way to answer the question is looking at strokes gained, in consideration of the hazards and penalties, and picking the strategy that maximizes SG off the tee. I’ve seen some apps that do this but I’m not sure how accurate they are.   And again, asking all this so I can learn what I should be doing in these situations rather than questioning your approach Bill. I would give an example of the course I’m joining this year where I plan to aim at the bunker, but I don’t want to take over your swing thread any further!
    • What @DeadMan said. From the satellite it looks like there's tall grass to the right, long of the fairway post-dog-leg. But left it just looks like regular rough all the way to the neighboring tee boxes. If that's true I'm aiming left edge of the green and bombs away every time, hoping for a 30-70 yard up and down opportunity.
    • What's the case against blasting a driver at the green? I'm guessing it puts the penalty area/fescue too much into play, but if that's just standard rough around the green, there would be a good case for it. If it's not driver, then I agree with your approach. The one thing I would add is to shade your aim towards the bunkers vs. center of the fairway. Hitting out of a bunker is (marginally) better than a penalty drop.
    • Yes, if you are gonna layup, then layup. No need to nickle and dime a few extra yards and bring bunker back into play.
