# Match Play question (Net tourney)

At my course we have a net tourney with 80% handicaps top 16 teams qualify for four ball match play.

We qualified and won our first match today. We all play off of the low handicap.

The handicaps are 5, 7, 12 and 16.

My question is:

The higher 3 handicaps. Do they get 80% off of the low ball? Or do you think you should get 100%

You calculate 80% of everyone's hcp index. You then translate those indices to individual course handicaps, and then wheel off the low man.

I am struggling to understand how this competition works.

You seem to be saying that there are 4 players in a team.

I have never heard of match play with 4 person teams.

4 ball means two teams of two/

I'm assuming 2-man teams playing a standard 4-ball.....no?

It's 4 ball 2vs2

To make it easy. Our home course handicaps are:

5, 7, 12, 16

The simple question is do the 3 high players get

100%

2, 7 and 9 strokes or

80%

2, 6, and 7 strokes?

All I am asking is, when it gets to match play should the 80% be void, or do you think the 80% handicap should continue on to the match play?

Qualifying was net (80% handicaps).. top 16 qualified

It would usually have the same calculation at the knockout (post qualification) stage.

When there is a reduction of players handicap's, the reduction is off all players index's, then the course handicaps are determined.

Then, all players deduct the lowest handicap players course handicap, which means the lowest handicap player is scratch (0)

If the above players course handicaps are an example, then the players would have - (hdcp 5 would be given zero, hdcp 7 would be given 2, hdcp 12 would be given 7, hdcp 16 would be given 9)
