Sky Caddie vs. Golfshot vs. Golf Logix

I've used a Sky Caddie the past few years.  I like it a lot, but I don't like the annual cost.  I'm thinking of switching over to Golf Shot or Golf Logix.  Anybody out there with any strong opinions on any of the three?

Golf Logix is pretty good.

I stop using Sky Caddie, and went with Golf Logix several years ago. Quite pleased with this change. They both did the same things, but I found Logix some what easier/quicker to use. I also use Logix for measuring shot distances way out here in the sticks. I like to keep up with my "carry" yardages with specific clubs.

The irony is I use the Logix device more for practice, than I do when actually playing. I use my lazer more when playing than the Logix device as it much quicker. Then again, over the years, I have learned to be quite accurate when eyeballing distances. Accurate enough with the clubs I use anyways.

I don't know anything about Golf Shot.

Thanks, Patch.  It seems like the website for GolfShot is a bit better.  What did you do with your old Sky Caddie?

IDK about better, but it does have some nice features. The one thing I don't like about it is the requirement to manually enter the club distance data.

Skycaddie for me, even though they have dropped the ball a bit with the touch release.

I am assuming the other 2 are phone apps - the way I look at it, I paid around $250 for the skycaddie touch and paid over $900 for my phone.

That and my phone will not fit in any cart drink holders and is more likely to break than the skycaddie if I drop it.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3.   I've used both Golflogix and Golfshot.  I currently have a yearly paid subscription to both.  The jury is still out which one works best.    The UI for each is different and I guess it boils down to a personal preference.   One thing I do not like about Golfshot, if you have a round you want to enter manually, you have to do it in your phone, not online.   It would be much easier to enter the round via their website instead of the phone.   I started with Golflogix and in a bright sunlight the graphics are easier to see than the gps image that Golfshot uses.  Each keep track of data and give a relatively accurate distance to any location on the course.   Both have had any golf course in their database that I've played.

Per the battery issue.   My older S3 has a smaller battery than most of the newer android phones.   I never use all of the battery during a round.   Each app has suggestions to save your battery during a round and their suggestions make a big difference.   If battery issues are a problem with either app, there is an easy fix.

When I first starting using the apps, I went to Amazon and bought a battery extender.   I have a Duracell that will charge my phone if I decide to play 36.   It works great.

The thing I like about both apps, it lets me relive the round and look for areas of improvement.   Could I do that with a pencil and a score card?  Sure but it's easier with the apps.

Kind of the same for me, I'm not into one device for all uses just yet.  I like having a specific device for golf.  It stays in my bag and has but one purpose.  It is also more suited to that one purpose than my phone, sometimes I play in the rain or other adverse conditions and my Skycaddie is more suited to those conditions than my phone.  I'm not a huge fan of the yearly subscription, but on the other hand, I did a 3 year membership, paid something like $100, which is like 2 greens fees.  So I figure I'll just skip playing 2 rounds of golf over the next 3 years to make up the difference.....yea.....right!
