I've been Playing Golf for: about 5 years

My current handicap index or average score is: 85-90

My typical ball flight is: usually straight, slightly low ball flight (driver & 3 wood)

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: occasional snap hook yipps w/ driver or 3 wood

Videos:

Sorry I only have the 1 video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B5bpvm0WhZk

I tend to strike the ball well with the occasional "top" or a snap hook out of no-where (usually off the tee w/ 3 wood).  Just looking for some knowledgeable feedback on my swing from all you golf nuts out there.  Never had any lessons so I could be way out of whack with my swing and have no idea.

Am I doing too much lower-body movement on my downswing?  I noticed in this clip my back foot moved/slipped out a lot too.

DRIVER:  Cobra S2 w/ stiff shaft

3 WOOD: Titleist 913F 15* with regular flex shaft

Two things that jump out at me, keeping in mind you should defer to actual instructors on here, is that your head is moving quite a bit throughout the swing and that you don't seem to be getting a full turn.

I think your head movement is caused by you swaying a bit in the backswing. You're moving your upper body and head away from the ball, which means your head has to move in the downswing to get back to where it was originally to make contact. The lack of a full turn might be related. That said, it's hard to tell how much turn you have from the video.

Here's a video I'd recommend look at:

I think flaring out your feet at address will help a lot with the turn. And then if you can steady your head in the backswing, you'll start making much better contact. Really, your swing looks pretty solid to me from that video, just a couple of small tweaks could help. Again, though, I'm not an instructor, so I defer to what they say.

Be proud of your form, you have good tempo and control.

You should check this thread out, Lag . You are currently throwing the club away a bit.

Throwing the club away = casting = no lag.

As Grumpter mentioned, getting your hips to initiate the downswing is useful. Also, creating more depth in the back swing helps.

Notice the difference in shaft position, particularly the angles. Normally a "caster" will have the club completely horizontal at this point, hence why I only said you do it a "bit."

Compare the differences in depth here (think Z-axis). His club is still behind his body and has depth, where yours is off to your right side. This is useful for carving an In-Out path, and creating a shallower angle of attack.

Wow good side-by-sides, thanks a lot.  Hitting the range after work so I will work on that. Maybe get some new videos up.

Thanks for the input

So I've been practicing some lag swings, but have been getting a pretty bad hook on it probably 70% of the shots.  Couldnt manage to get a video cause i was there alone but will try to get one up soon.  Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?

For me, hooks are caused by coming over the top when I set up for a slight push draw. If I push the handle a little more forward, towards target, it helps me swing out a bit more. Also I do the drill below to get myself in a better position at A6 (shaft parallel to the ground on downswing).  The stick is anchored at the target line behind the ball and then points up to my neck on the right side.

The idea is with a proper swing, you won't hit the stick. If you start to come over the top, the head will be past the hands at A6 and you will hit the stick.

    • Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.
    • First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!
    • Day 23: Rained all day, so no ball hitting. Worked indoors on top of the backswing feel, and also putted around the living room working on bead.
    • Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
