Hi all, new member here.....

So I am at the local Wally World to buy some golf balls, I like Noodles so I am about to grab the box of a dozen for 19.95 when I notice a funny shaped noodle
box, looks like something a bottle of liqour would com in.

Maxfli Noodle Practice balls, and on the box it says, "x-outs, logo overruns, and overruns" 2 dozen for 12.95.

So I bought these, correct me if I am wrong, but other that the "p" stamped on them they are just like a new noodle aren't they? Just blems.

Each manufacturer handles things differently, I think. Practice balls typically have only cosmetic problems. However, I've heard of some that also have somewhat more performance-related impairments, though they're usually minor (like a slightly rough cover seam, etc.).

There is always a select few balls that have performance problems(but mainly cosmetics) ... That will stick in you mind while you play! You will play a bad strech of holes and think it is the x-out golf ball.....

Naaah! I am not that good! I can usually tell if a ball is "dead" tho' and if it doesn't feel good off the clubhead I'll toss it. They don't look like anything is wrong with them, some look like the ink got a little sloppy, but that shouldn't effect play....

... Practice balls

from what I know balls marked "PRACTICE" are way different than "X-OUT". Practice balls are designed differently - much lower compression - around 60 to 70, same way as range balls. X-outs are the one with "cosmetic problems" or other issues with quality control...

Yes, but these are specifically marked as x-outs and logo over runs. BTW, Played nine this morning and used them and I would say (at least the 2 that I used for the round) are just the same as a regular noodle, distance off the driver was as good as my normal drives, in fact on our long par 5 I hit one just short of my longest ever drive there. I think they are a good deal.

no offense, but most of us won't tell the difference between 70 compression and 90 compression. If you seen the Nike special on "Equipping the Tiger" - there was a scene where ETW got three unmarked balls, bounced each of them few times on a wedge and give them back to the engineers, correctly identifing 70, 90 and 110 compression balls

. Simply amazing. Most of us won't tell a difference.

again w/o trying to offend you - do you know why precept's laddie and mclady were such a good seller last year? Because they are 70 compression, which gives you BETTER distance with slower swing speed. Problem is if you smash a 140mph club against it - you'll lose tons of yardage.

I guess your swing speed is in the range where it doesn't really affect it, or even if you swing really easy - it might add you a few yards
I think they are a good deal.

No doubt. Especially the ones that are "logo overruns" - these are regular 100% off the shelf, just stamped.

Not a big knocker here, which is why I was buying Noodles in the first place.

I like noodles too. They are soft but they need more spin.

Detailed reply about Practice balls and X-outs from Acushnet (Titleist)

----------------------------------

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the differences between Titleist Pro
V1 Practice and Pro V1 X-Out golf balls.

The Acushnet Company invests significant time and effort to ensure that our products are Best-in-Class in terms of quality, performance and consistency. As such, in the rare event one of our products fails to meet USGA requirements for size, weight, velocity or any other conformance criteria we destroy rather than market such products.

As such, only products that are of a minimal defect are available for purchase. These products are available in two offerings:

1. Pro V1 Practice golf balls are conforming products that differ only due to a cosmetic blemish such as paint, ink or registration of stamping. Pro
V1 Practice golf balls do not have any construction or performance deficiencies.

2. Pro V1 X-Out golf balls are also conforming products. However, they usually have a cosmetic blemish and/or occasionally have a minor physical defect that should not significantly affect its performance. More often than not, the physical condition causing the ball to be stamped as an X-Out is so minute that it is not recognizable by the player.

Both products may be used in the casual round of golf including those with scores posted for handicaps, and most competitions, with the possible exception of high level competitions invoking the Local Rule requiring balls to be on the List of Conforming Golf Balls.

Please refer to the USGA Official Rules on the subject listed below for your reference :

Q: May I use a ball stamped with "Practice" or "X-Out" to play a round of golf?

A: Our present policy provides that if the List of Conforming Golf Balls or the One Ball Condition is in effect, a practice or logo ball may be used provided the other markings on the ball (i.e., pole and seam) correspond exactly to a ball listing on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls. Balls labeled with ''PRACTICE'' or a circled ''P'', are essentially treated as a logo ball (such as a Mickey Mouse emblem). A player's name stamped on the ball is also acceptable. However, the original ball markings (i.e., pole and seam markings) must be readable in order for a Rules Official to determine whether that ball is on the List of Conforming Golf Balls. X-Out balls are not permitted to be used in any competition in which the List of Conforming Golf Balls or the One Ball Condition is in effect. However, if neither of these Conditions are in effect, X-Out balls may be used because all balls are presumed to conform unless they have been tested and found not to conform or are obviously non-conforming (e.g., too small or too heavy). (See Decisions 5-1/4 and US/5-1/101).

As a result of the potential for an X-Out to be non-conforming if tested, we do not recommend using this model during tournament play.

I wouldn't say most stores sell them. I found one pro shop here in the San Fernando Valley that sold the ProV1 Practice balls. I would think they would be available at discount or chain sporting goods stores more than pro shops. Golfsmith sells logo over runs at decent prices.

This site has some x-outs and logo over runs. http://www.golfballs.com .

So here's the question. What's the difference between the Pro V1, the pro V1 x-outs, and the pro v1 practice balls. It seems the x-out and the practice balls (only found these on golfsmith.com) were both $30 a dozen.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
