This is from my previous questions, in another thread on switching balls during an outing/tournament. So called distance balls, will really add much distance to my drives? Yes, I understand it depends on the ball makeup and my swing speed. Yet in anyone's opinion, how many more yards can I add: 5, 10 - 15, 20+? Just curious?

Thanks again.

These days, still yes, but not as much as back when premium balls were balata or the early urethane models.

Myself, after trying different balls every so often, in search of a few extra yards on full swings, have found a few extra yards. Maybe 7 yards or less.

Problem for me was that my short game suffered with those longer, different brand balls. That 7 yards, or less was not worth changing from my normal game balls.

I also need to say that at this time in my golf journey, I am no longer a long ball knocker in the first place. Father time, and some injuries have stolen some swing speed from me.

Agree on the short game. Yet as in my initial posts, I am only considering these balls for longest drive contests. I normally use my ProV1/ProV1X. And father time has gotten to me too.

True that! Used to play in a league on a course that only had greens watering, nothing in the fairways. And they'd keep the greens green, but allowed them to firm up plenty when it got hot. A whole lot of league members would be out there smacking Top Flites around, loving the distance on their drives, but wondering why they couldn't hold a green!

I heard one of those guys asking a better player in the league about it, and the better player said, "You don't use rocks on rocks!" Of course, some guys had gotten wise to this, and in scrambles would hit a distance ball off the tee, and switch to a softer, spinnier ball for their approach. This is, of course, cheating. But if no one called them on it, they got away with it.

THAT I would never do!!!! I would use the rock ball the entire hole. And as I said, only on a Longest Drive hole.

The guys on the Long Drive Tour use two piece balls not urethane so my guess is that a cheap two piece ball goes further. Especially because if you fade or slice your drives a high spin ball will lose more distance that a two piece ball. So right there you may pick up 10 or more yards.
