Saw this question on WRX and while it didn't get many responses it made me think, so asking here. I play jumbo 80 gram grips.Wondering if this has any effect on my swing. I bought a couple Winn light jumbo grips I'm going to try.

Not much, and typically only in pretty extreme situations, like a very different swing weight or something.

Yes, mainly from changes to weights and balance points. How your body reacts to different swing feels can change with changes in swing weight, head, grip, or shaft weight. That being said I personally believe that the firmness of the club in your hands (as influenced by grip firmness or shaft butt stiffness) can influence how your two hands interact, which could change your release point. This one is more of personal experience with my own game and fitting others, don't have any hard data to prove it.

I don't know if a change in grip weight and/or diameter effects my swing.  I do know that worrying about anything does.  So I choose not to worry about it and use whatever grips feel comfortable.  The possibility that there is one perfect grip out there, for my swing, seems remote at best and likely absurd.

I'm 61 years old. If the shaft and the swingweight are too heavy I cannot maintain lag and I release early. Reducing shaft weight and having a D0 swingweight makes it much easier for me to maintain lag and not have an early release.

I find the opposite. Really light shafts seem very hard to control as do really low swingweights.

OK when I was 40 years old and had been playing for 6 years, I started casting and I couldn't stop doing it.  I kept on playing for a whole year. The next year my swing returned and I never had the problem again. It was strange. I wanted to just quit but I couldn't so I played through it until it went away.

    • At address? I think so. Downswing and through? IDK. I doubt if a whole lot of golfers, if any at all, deliberately think "I have a 9-iron so I need to bend half an inch more through the downswing compared to my 8 iron".

    • Thanks! Evolvr, for sure. My indoors setup is pretty close to ready. I want to add a few more lights as it's a pretty dark place to begin with (old barn). Plan to use my iPhone 14 Pro, 720p 240 FPS. I think I got a tripod somewhere, but I nail everything down so I'll make a small box I can just plop the phone into. That way I know it's always in the same spot and level. How does the setup look in terms of angles and stuff.  I saw that topic and bookmarked it for later. A technique where you want the head to move forward and down? I've been doing that for twenty years! (not on purpose) 😛 Looks fun, I'll certainly try it out. £7000. That's certainly "down the line". What would be a good price? Thanks. I'll probably hold off until at least winter comes and see where we're living at that point. For the next six months I'll combine indoor practice with the range, which helps.
