Looking for personal experiences of if you have ever consistently reduced your spin rate on your driver and 3 wood, how you went about this? Is it still working, did it effect your game positively and were there any negatives, how much did it effect your game? This is sort of my next step in changing my swing, so wanting to learn from the real stories of other golfers. Thanks!

Hi Erik, well actually you're right, I only know that mine are all over the show not too high 😬 as I was tested today at numbers between 3100 and 4500 on my 3 wood off a lowish tee, at 3100 it was a great result, wish I could hit it in the low 3000 all the time. I'm just not sure why I could, I'm thinking hitting up but, that seems to go against keeping hands in front of the ball. I didn't test the driver, probably I should do that first. Maybe leaning back and pulling up, but again off the deck would be really difficult pulling up without topping the ball? Maybe only off the tee can get low 3000's with a 3 wood? I suppose I'd like to be sure I can have a consistent way of swinging at least the driver and 3 wood that produces the lower spin rates of below 3000 for driver and low 3000's for 3 wood, not very concerned about other clubs. I was just interested in any other journeys to knowing how to do this from golfers? Thanks.

You had the opportunity to be tested and you hit a 3W but no driver? I’m not a tech guy but I can’t imagine caring about the spin rate on my 3W over driver.

Funny you should be asking this.  I stumbled upon some information.  I hope the guys can fact check this.  I read someone say that striking the ball on the upper half of the face helps for driver at least.  And lower loft.

Vertical gear effect, yes.

If you see a wide range of spin rates it's probably because due to consistency in strike location. If you are trying to hit up you would be hitting low on the clubface, which would cause spine to skyrocket on a 3-wood.

Swing better. Strike is king.

If you struggle with not flipping and hitting up, then you might want to create a my swing thread and post your swing. There is no general tip that anyone can give you that will work. It will be a shot in the dark with out seeing your swing.

    • I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
    • Day 150 1-10 focus on arching the wrist and getting the ball to go left. Recorded, hit foam balls.
    • Day 467 - 2026-01-10 Practiced at Pinehurst every day I was there, and before Junior Elite this morning I got fifteen minutes of backswing checks in the mirror in.
