Ever wondered what a bad putt looks like in slow-motion? As you can see here thanks to this slow-motion video, it's...

I’ve often seen skidding putts due to playing in the early morning dew. Many of them came from my old putter :8)

This is actually something I learned from the instructor who did my Edel fitting. He had a felt mat I putt from that would show whether the ball rolled or skidded. He actually recorded my old putter hitting the ball like this and I delivered so much loft to the ball that it actually started to spin backwards before it made contact with the ground.

I’ve tried to do this myself but I don’t seem to have a slow motion camera with enough shutter speed to capture the line like this. Maybe it’s a lighting issue.

I've seen video of the same.   When I was fitted for a putter, I didn't purchase one but the fitter tried to change the loft in my older 2 ball putter.  He said it had too much loft.   I do have a Ping putter with less loft but it's a blade putter which I don't like as much.   "Some day", I'm going to make it to Erie for an Edel fitting.    Putting in the morning dew can be an eye opener.

While I don't disagree in general (there are a lot of issues at play here), the bottom ball clearly skids and hops more than the top ball. The skidding could be because it has about 5° less rotation at that point (8° versus 3° by my measurement), or it could just be that the ball hit a slightly different part of the putting green and reacted a bit differently.

If you launch a ball at 1° (and the same initial velocity) and 0° spin, it'll begin rolling sooner than a ball you launch at 3° with a little bit of forward spin.

Or, in the words of one of the world's top putting guys… "Oh no. That’s not right. Ugh."
