But I don't know what's more troublesome - their lack of compassion - or your inability/refusal to see the human tragedy unfolding before your eyes.

Human Tragedy???? I had no idea that JD was on suicide watch? Thanks for the info.

I see him as a guy who felt guilty of his early success, and has self confidence issues. He will bounce back.

JD was the 9th alternate and drove through the night to get there and borrowed someone's caddy (person, not car) once there.

It's amazing how

early you can awake when you know a round of golf...and possibly 2 hours of practice lie before you.... I'm with you, they have to kick me out, after I give the last 3 flags to the cart barn....so NO, I really don't feel for the multi millionaires (tour pros) who missed out by being lazy.

I agree --Nick O Hern had a responsibility to be at that course. He LIVES in Isleworth -5 minutes from Tiger. How could he not be at that course. He shouldnt have complained. I would have been at the course regardless--because its in your backyard.

I'm not saying they're lazy: they may have had a good reason to be away, not expecting to be needed. That having been said, as much as I love Imada, I can't feel sorry for someone for not being at the golf course.

When I dream about being a tour pro - hey, I'm allowed to dream - I picture myself showing up to pro-ams I'm not part of just to sign autographs. Of course, in those dreams, I'm the envy of every middle-aged guy who wanted to quit his job to just play golf, so people do end up wanting my autograph. Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is that I'm coming around on this.

Come on Shin...

You know they will want your autograph, especially the ones with the skirts and long legs.

Oh wait, maybe that is my dream.

As far as the alternates, I am altering my opinion because they are big boys and they know the rules. They are alternates just for that reason. I am not sure if being an alternate for the pro-am is the same as being an alternate for actual play. Weren't these guys already in the tournament?

if john daly is feeling guilty of early success, then it must of been a successful birth cus he's been a loose cannon from day one and the hormones of his teens was like pumping rocket fuel into his veins sending him into orbit

Again, I'm seeing that many do not understand JD's addictions as an illness.

People post things like:

" because of his off-course demons and decisions".
" his behavior has been nothing but a negative".
" overlook his many, many perhaps fatal flaws".
" maybe only drink 4 Miller Lite's a night".
" I see the biggest waste of golf talent of this generation".
" a destructive pattern of behavior".
" PGA Tour could give Daly more alcohol responsibility lessons".

While most of these quotes do have at least some truth to them... they also imply that JD also has some control over his addictions. However, this is, in fact, exceedingly unlikely. Daly, sadly, has NO control over his addictions... which in turn is still a symptom of his illness. (just as a cancer patient has no control over a tumor growth)

I also think that the people around JD do not enable his addiction(even though some may be "yes men" etc). I think the MAJOR enabler in JD's life is his extraordinary golf ability... (ie sadly, it is keeping him from reaching bottom). What I mean is this: Daly, on any given day, can still shoot a low score and be at the top(or near top) of the leaderboard. In spite of his addictive condition. (ie Daly can shoot a 64-66 one day) This may make Daly think, hey, I can still hang with the Pros... Then, the next day he will shoot an 89 and miss the cut... But, that initial good score makes Daly think that he can still compete in his current state(thus, enabling the addictions).

I hope and pray Daly will get the help he needs.

Excellent post...I could really care less if he wins again, just want to see him moderately healthy, and have moderate course management, and have some moderation in his personal life...I was the one who said 4 miller lites a night.

With a moderate game he could be a top 80 tour player at his age, the only skill keeping him there would be his touch shots from 120 and in. Would love to see him be very competitive in the Champions Tour, I'm all about watching guys like JD do well and bring a lot of interest to a somewhat robotic game at the tour level. I followed him for 12 holes at the PODS tournament 2 weeks ago and he can still hit the irons man, drives are just above tour average (IMHO) for him now a days, most groups i saw where within 10 yards of each other off the tee, 2nd shot is the only one that matters, and he still has serious game in that area. He does have to fix his putting and get realisitc with his shots off the tee, Richard Johnson a graduate from the NationWide tour banged it by him most holes by 10 yards or more at the PODS playing with JD. Long Drive means nothing in the PGA, not that it ever has (see Hank Kuhne, Bubba Watson, and JB Holmes (to some extent).

Not even "to some extent" with J.B. Holmes. Watson's high placing in the U.S. Open was due to accuracy. J.D. won at Crooked Stick with a great touch around the greens. Holmes' putting was sweet at TPC Scottsdale two years out of three.

The length helps, but they score with the short game, just like the rest of us. Well, at least, that's the part of their game that means the most on their score... if I had their short game, I wouldn't care about length off the tee

JB Holmes knocked a good one on the 1st tee at the PODS, my oldest son and i watched a couple of groups before JB and Fred Couples teed off, JB was 20 yards longer than Freddie and most everyone else in the groups before him (JB landed it on the fly on an upslope and was still 20 yards longer), I think he bogeyed the hole though, but don't hold me to it.

My only point it was just amazing how most every tee shot was within 10 to 15 yards, center cut most of the time, unreal.....

Uhm, wrong. Butch did what I wish a lot more people would do to John: call him on the carpet for his crap.

Butch-at least with the common courtesy and with his reputation should have had the repect and decency to call John Daly and tell him about the split man to man...Instead Butch decided to let loose his ego and publicly humiliate the guy...I dont know about you but if this happened to me i wouldnt want to find out by reading about myself in the local paper the next morning. I mean the least he could have done is texted J.D.

We know the era we live in...he should at least "texted" him...it gives a new meaning to a "Dear John letter"...pun intended. Not that I am disagreeing with you, but we all know there is no shortage of egos there.

but ive said this before- since when has JD ever had a swing coacH??..never.

another point- why should JD continue to get exemptions and push rookies out of the field who are trying their best to make tournaments and progress..he isnt trying his best at the moment- that element of this saga does not seem fair.

he'll be back
