Just bought a Callaway Razr 5 wood, it's got a soft tip that looks floppy. The guy I bought from said it plays as a regular shaft, I can feel the head in my swing and it's not a nasty feeling. It doesn't have a bad result but I'm wondering what the benefits are or how it can help me, can you tell me what you've found using the soft tip shafts?

You will just have to learn to wait for the shaft flex to unload.
I have a soft tip in a 4 hybrid which took me a while to be patient and slow the swing tempo

.
When I try to crush it like my 3 hybrid, I push the ball badly to the right.
Soft tip shafts are for lower swing tempo players, IMO.

Thanks for that, it's weird feeling the head so much in my swing as I've never felt it before. Will try to be smooth in future and not crush it, cheers....

The problem with a too soft tip is controlling the club head.  I have a Cobra Long Tom with a stiff shaft and soft tip.  I can knock the ball a country mile...sometimes.  Most often I have to tee up another ball.  It has been retired and now resides, with others of its ilk, on the "Isle of mis-hit toys".

    • Lazarus Irons....top notch and way cheaper than the big brands.
    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
