The S58s, S59s, or these new S57s will be fairly difficult to be consistent for a beginner. However, there are exceptions, so don't rule out giving them a try. As far as the way they look, they look awesome. I've been a fan of the first two models and this one looks to be just as nice if not nicer. I'm sure we'll have them at the pro shop whenever they come out!

The red s57 logo looks a bit tacky to me but other than that those are probably some of the nicest looking irons to come out of late. They almost look forged.

Check them out

Yeah, they look a lot like the Titleist AP2s sitting behind me here, except the Pings a bit tackier in my opinion and likely won't look as good at address (super-thick topline).

I bought a new set of PING Raptures (the G10 on steriods) with graphite shafts. Very happy with these; about a club longer than anything else I tried and much easier to hit consistenly well (and I think I tried just about every premium make and model, including all the blades).

Haven't pings always been a club longer.....there 8 iron loft is a 7 for most companies...at least this is what I was told years and years ago...

it was a great marketing idea...worked too

Great find Mr. 425.

I'll wait for these to appear (hopefully) in Europe instead of reshafting my S58's this season. I'll try them out at least. They'll probably be as/more expensive as the 58/59's when they came out though...

They look great - a little shinier than the dull heads of the S58's.

    • I’ve been rather surprised how my original question relating to the logic behind “differential vs course handicap” elicited the responses expressed on this thread so far. I suppose it shows that there are many who have given this subject a lot of thought. I personally like the current system for the same reasons stated in the post by saevel25 and it works very well in our league. I just needed to get the reasoning/logic clear in my head so I could explain it succinctly to those who had questions. Regarding the ongoing discussion, the only tweak we make is only the scores made in league competition count. (We don’t use GHIN, we do the calculation ourselves.) The only additional thought I had is perhaps the powers that be can come up with a method, when doing the differential calculation, of giving greater weight to the rounds played more recently than those from 20 rounds ago. I’ve been testing this with an idea I had similar to the way colleges calculate GPA’s based on credits offered by different classes, but honestly, the complexity it adds to the calculation isn’t worth the trouble as any change made has proven to be inconsequential.
