Hey guys. I have to go do some work at Edwards AFB and I am staying in Lancaster.

I will be there from March 31 till May 16th......uggh.

Anyway, I have done searches and seen the courses that are close, but I was curious if anyone has played any of them so I can know which ones to try for sure.

I am up for about a 2 hour drive if need be....

Also, if anyone is in that area and wants to play, let me know.

Try this website www.greenskeeper.org . I use it whenever I travel to Southern California and looking for golf course updates. They even have an option for singles looking for a game. I have found their reviews to be current, honest and reliable.

The three courses that I would suggest, although they are probably just around your two hour limit away are, Oak Quarry in Riverside and Oak Valley and East Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.

Hrm, you're about an hour north of Los Angeles, and there are tons of courses out here. How much are you looking to spend and what level of length/CR/SR are you looking for?

I'd rather not go to LA.

Money isn't really an issue within reason. I wouldn't pay more than $200 per round.

Well, if you don't want to come to L.A., there's a 2-course complex in Beaumont : PGA of SoCal.

L.A. scares me too. And I've lived here for 16 of my 24 years!

What worries you? Obviously, you don't want to go to Compton. But going to Knollwood ( http://www.knollwoodgc.com/ ) in Grenada Hills is safe. Even going as far south as Rancho Park is safe. Just don't go near USC

You should (you must !!) play Moorpark Country Club . 27 holes in immaculate condition. Challenging but fair. The cart girls are (1) guaranteed to be girls (instead of dudes), (2) guaranteed to be 20-something college students, and (3) guaranteed to be hot.

I'd also recommend checking out Rustic Canyon for an interesting Linksish track. Last but not least, Lost Canyons has 36 holes split into the 18 hole Shadow Course and 18 hole Sky Course. Both are well maintained and very fun.

You're in a good spot to play some golf if you don't mind the drive. So Cal is a golfing heaven.

This is a bit off topic but worth the post.

You MUST go and visit the Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve just outside of Lancaster, this year is shaping up to be a great one.

http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=627

This will blow your mind more than a round at Pebble Beach. One of the great sights in the world in a good year. The middle of April might be right, it's hard to say, but check the website and stay informed.

I'll definitely head down there some weekend in April.

What do you see . . . wildflower heaven, carpets of orange and gold.

Last two years have been terrible, but this one is supposed to really be great so go over there and drive around walk around, people come from all over the world to find a natural high from this.

As for golf, there is a golf course in Death Valley that would be a real trip to play! That's another must see place in the spring. Enjoy your time out here!

Thanks guys for all the replies. I will definitely check in to some of your suggestions.

Unfortunately I am going there to work and am gonna be away from my family for a long time so I am not really looking forward to it. Hopefully I can play enough golf to keep my mind off of things you know.

You should (you

I played there Friday as well as many times in the past, and yes, the best cart girls anywhere! The courses are really really good too. However, they just started punching greens this week.

I'd also recommend checking out

Rustic Canyon, super cheap for what you get. Was ranked in GD top 100 public courses, and high on the list too. I think it's like $30 to walk. Really neat and fun course.

Lost Canyons isn't really high on my places to play. The courses look nice, but can be a bit on the challenging side. So much to the point of being not so fun. And I think golf should be challenging to that point. But for some reason those courses rubbed me the wrong way...
You're in a good spot to play some golf if you don't mind the drive. So Cal is a golfing heaven.

That being said, there isn't really much in Palmdale/Lancaster way except for desert and a few private tracks. If you can some how hook it up, Crystalaire CC is right there, and a really nice place. It holds US Open qualifiers. Other than that you are going to need to drive a bit to find anything nice. The above mentioned courses will take about an hour. If you go an hour in a different direction you'll get Empire Lakes (Nationwide Tour stop). Los Serranos, with 36 holes.

Wow guys, you've given me some great courses to go and try -- and I've lived in L.A. my entire golfing life!

You should (you

I didn't realize this was a public course? I'm going to have to give it a try. How busy is it on weekends in the summer?

Probably the closest nice course that I know of: Drive down the 14 to Santa Clarita and play here:

http://www.robinsonranchgolf.com/

2 courses, both fairly tight, about $100. Practice range isn't great (mats, not grass) but the courses are in good shape and fairly difficult (tight fairways, nice greens).

FYI Rustic isn't $30 - more like $50 to walk. One of the only places you can actually walk anymore. Great course if you like to hit driver a lot. Fairways are wide and you can bomb it - greens are fairly tricky (maybe even quirky).

The problem w/ Lost Canyons is the wind. I've never played there when it hasn't been blowing like crazy. That makes an already difficult, very tight course into a monster. I will admit that the course girls here are best looking of anywhere I've been (by a LONG margin too).

Another good one to go to is Angeles National:
http://www.angelesnational.com/
It's difficult and somewhat expensive but it's beautifully maintained and the greens roll wonderfully.

Good call on Robinsons Ranch. Defintely the easiest drive for T.J.K. and tpo quality courses. Angeles is another great one. In my top 5.

And you're welcome TJK, happy to help.

The Base course is a great track & the green fees are the best deals in the area. You won't get the crowds like some of the public courses. During the week after work you feel like it's your own private course. Greens are fast & undulating; fairways not too tight. You should bring an ugly stick (an old 5 or 6 iron), if you get outside the rough line you'll be playing off hard-pan desert floor, which has a way of autographing the sole of you clubs.....not pretty. Work on your wind game also, 10 to 20 isn't uncommon (gusts upwards of 30-40). We do get some amazing calm sunny days as well. Enjoy.

I live in Oklahoma City, 20-30 mile per hour winds are a calm day for me

Where is the Base Course? This sounds awesome.

And I even have an old 7-iron somewhere I could bring.
