As an update to my earlier post in this thread, this past weekend my wife and I went shopping for a starter set of clubs for her.  Yesterday she had her first lesson.  Well, during that lesson, it happened.  She hit a pure shot.  She now knows that feeling when the ball makes contact with the sweet spot...and she wants more if it.  Another golf junky is born, lol.

  • 9 months later...

My wife is starting to play.  She played in a tournament last year (of course she had to buy golf shoes, gloves, and an 'outfit' before she could tee it up once) and I've gotten her out on an executive 9 hole course a few times but now she's coming to the range with me and she starts lessons next week.

Its definitely a mixed blessing.  I've been trying to get into a good routine  that includes three hours at the range on saturday and 18 holes on sunday. I even bought a "short game" membership at the range that lets me use the practice hole, putting green, and grass tees.  Now on saturday she wants to come with me, which is great, except she doesn't have the membership so she can't use the facilities that i paid $300 to use.  Nor does she have the patience to put in the three hours that I would like. So I end up on the mats and skipping the short game practice.

Plus, she isn't ready to play 18.  So now I've either got to skip the range on saturday and play a par 3 course or skip my 18 on sunday (not gonna happen).

BUT once she gets to the point that she can play 18 at a reasonable pace, I'll be as happy as can be.

ha, right after submitting that I got an email from my wife begging me to skip work on friday to go to the range with her on her day off.  She said "I really want to get better"  haha, she's got the bug.

My girlfriend is the granddaughter of one of the richest men in the country and if I told you who her Uncle dates you would never believe me. Unfortunately she wants nothing to do with them anymore. She used to golf with her grandparents at a early age and was not good at it so she stopped...she is considering starting again to play with me though. Now I just need to get back in favor with her grandparents!

Girlfriend plays golf. Freshman on the golf team! She is one of the better ones, yet she still shoots 120+ for the most part. She moves pretty quick when playing with me though. Like to practice with her its fun and she enjoys the challenge.

My wife golfs with me. I invited her out for a round a couple of years ago while we were on holidays, kind of expecting her to hate it. She loved it right away, and now we are both members at our local golf course. We did lessons together as well, which was really beneficial for her as she was able to get some of the basics down before actively playing.

It's a great way to spend time together instead of watching TV. We always walk the course too, so there is the added benefit of getting exercise while we're out.

I introduced my wife to golf about 2 years ago. She has been playing off and on since. She's a girly girl so the only way to get her interested in golf was to buy her all the cute outfits. I have given her lessons personally and learned that it doesn't work well, so now I just wait for her to ask for help and play my own game. I let other people give her tips. She has some of my swing flaws from me teaching her, but mainly the sway that I used to have. Oops.  We have both taken lessons, but im more consistent with lessons. She loves hitting the ball but has been working on not topping the ball. When she connects with her driver, it goes 200 easy. Her PW goes 100 which im impressed with. She has good lag even though she has no clue what it is. Its just her athleticism and flexibility. Not to mention she 5"10. And she lets centrifugal force do the work and not her muscles arms.  She trys to play with me once or month or so but tends to want to shop instead of play most times. We actually just recently played 36 holes in Palm Desert over Easter weekend. We had a pretty good time and there was no drama.

She doesn't play, but I know she would have fun if she got lessons. I bought her a used set and tried to teach her...bad idea. The clubs are there when she's ready. She does like walking with me when I play 9 after work in the evenings which is nice.

I started off by getting her a set of inexpensive clubs for Christmas. Then a pair of slick Nike golf shoes and some bling bling golf markers. That sparked her interest. I had her reeled in from there. Now, it getting to be more about golf than all the outfits.

My fiancé has some pretty bad back problems, so she can't really play. She goes to the range with me a lot and will tee up a 5wood and can hit it pretty long and straight. It's pretty funny seeing other people stop when she gets good contact. But with her back problems she only gets a handful of swings in.

    • So no joke, last evening post work nine must have been the craziest side I've ever played: Bogey, double, double, par, birdie, birdie, birdie, double, birdie. Two gimme birdies, one 15 footer and one bonus bomb from prolly 35 feet on no. 9. Full disclosure, it's a super easy course when greens are running at an 8 with easy welcoming pins. Still, a couple of firsts there. Driver freed me up starting the fourth hole. Anyway, driver notes: 1) anti left left hand grip. 2) no structural bind on hands/grip. 3) left shoulder HAS to get up to chin with humerus completely detached from chest and shoulder socket (feel) Big game tomorrow, aiming to break 80.
