It is my understanding that ti fairway woods are a gimmick to sell more expensive clubs because the properties of ti are most effective on a thin, tall face when the contact is made high on the club face. A fairway wood does not have a large enough face to take advantage of the very benefit of ti.

OK. That's my understanding, but I'm an English teacher. Anyone with expertise in metal properties instead of literature want to correct me?

I think that titanium is lighter (duh) and it offers some compelling possibilities, but they may have been "used up" in the r7 TP fairway wood(s) from TaylorMade. They let you move the weights around, and that, I believe, may be the sole advantage.

I've played with both the r7 TP fairway metal and the 904 (and a few others), and I've stuck with the 904... but barely. The r7 TP is a nice club. I just didn't feel it was as workable (mostly in terms of ball height, not left and right) as the 904.
