Looks like the new Drive Shack in Long Island will be ready soon, August is anticipated, it's way out there far from Manhattan, but 30 minutes east of Bethpage Black.

The nets are up at Topgolf Long Island, and the company's familiar graphics adorn the building's facade. New York's first location of the...

I got nothing from official media sources on what's to become of the range that was at Randall's Island, a Drive Shack was supposed to be built, but even well before the pandemic, there were issues, I dunno what. I only have the tweet below, will have to take a bike ride by the range one day to see what's happening. I dunno how the tweeter below can call the golf center as it's been out of business for years, I guess he called a government office, I don't imagine NY would have a golf department for the island.

I must be missing something.  Why is this so exciting for the folks in Suffolk?

I suspect that DS tweet was more of a BS tweet. I was HIGHLY skeptical when they originally said, "new concession" was taking over in a month and run it for a year until "Drive Shack" would start construction. A year later it was still closed. And that was 2 years before any "Pandemic". Besides the fact that it is on NYC Parkland, makes it even more suspect that they would allow DS to build a facility like that on the property.

Years ago, that range was supposed to the site of an Indoor Artificial Wave Pool for Surfing. All the brochures were pretty, "agreements" were signed, etc... Wound up being a project that required up front commitment from people willing to become "Members" for a ridiculous amount of money. A few people went in... and... nothing.

It was doing fine a a range- They had good instructors, good quality Mats, Good Srixon Range Balls that were changed every April and October. Mini-Golf and some batting cages, along with a Bar & Grill that seemed to do okay. Somebody in "Government" must have seen a chance at enhancing their take by making deals. They probably got their take and don't really care what happens. If they wanted to, it could be fired right back up into a decent range in a month.

My pet conspiracy theory is someone from Chelsea Piers is keeping a knee down on anything golf going up in that spot again.

    • Fantastic selection! And very little driving between them. Fingers crossed the weather is good to you.
    • Day 20: 2026.01.22 Hit about twenty balls at the range. Quietly pleased with how the changes are bedding in, surprsingly consistent ball flight. Hoping to film over the weekend to capture new movement.
    • You might also consider a tune-up lesson. Check and see if anything in your set-up or basic swing is holding you back. I have been playing for more than five decades, but on occasion I've had to make swing tweaks due to age, loss of flexibility, etc. You don't have to reinvent your swing. A couple of static set-up changes might really help out.
    • Good advice. In general, you want to take whatever weight you are lifting to a couple of reps before failure, for muscle growth. There are other tactics for PT related stuff. I would trust your PT person.  For muscle growth, you can go like 30 reps to failure. It is tougher to gauge. Also, it takes 2x as long to do the same number of working sets per week if you are doing 15 instead. It is way less efficient, but your case is special because of the injury/aggravation to the hip.
    • Several years ago I got paired with a twosome of golfers, one of which had a maybe 5-year-old son with him. The kid had a putter and a 7i with him, and on some holes he would drop a ball near the green, chip on, and putt. If the kid started to get distracted, the dad would ask, "Do you need to rest?" The kid would nod yes, and then take his dad's seat riding in the cart for a couple of holes. It was a slow day, and the kid was polite and friendly. We got through 18 just fine. (If it had been a crowded course day, I'm sure it would have been less pleasant.)
