My Titleist API 18s have Tensei CK Series AMC IR Flex-R shafts. I'm considering purchasing the PXG 0211DC clubs and have a choice of either Mitsubishi R Flex 70G or the Mitsubishi S Flex 80G. I'm not certain which shaft would play closest to my current shafts. I also don't understand how the S Flex shafts can be 80G - wouldn't a senior flex shaft usually be lighter than an R Flex shaft?

Thanks.

I think S, when marked as a shaft stiffness, typically is for stiff, not senior.  I typically see 'A' for senior shaft flex (allegedly, it stands for 'amateur' or some such, as seasoned citizens don't often like being called seniors).

I don't know enough about shafts to tell you much more;  Ralph Maltby has a shaft similarity tool somewhere I can try to find (I have it bookmarked on an older computer, probably).  I do know soft stepping and hard stepping are things, so that might help you have more options.

I have the 0211DC irons and they are absolutely awesome. The ‘S’ is for stiff. I got the Mitsubishi 80g S and love them. I think they are every bit as good as the Aerotech shafts I’ve played before.

Thanks you guys. I’m not sure how I missed the fact that the “S” means Stiff. @Shindigthank you. And @Vinsk! I’m going to order the R flex. Thank you for help!

Weight is important too though. A heavier shaft is going to play and feel stiffer regardless of what the marking is. If you like the performance on the Titleist shafts, then try to match the weight.

Exactly! That's why I was confused. It seemed like the "Senior" shaft was heavier but I was simply misreading the "S" as "Senior" instead of "Stiff". I went ahead and ordered the PXG 0211DC clubs in the "R" flex which will be closed to my current set. Thanks.

    • I've had a couple of good shots since the last time I posted, 1 a 90 yard approach that I manufactured with my gap wedge that I knocked to about 18 inches, 1 a ~140 yard 8 iron that I got to about 3 feet (pictured), but this week my best shot was a 60 yard pitch. It wasn't anything special but I did hit it out of a divot, so that's what I'm more proud of. Plus, i didn't really have any memorable shots this week.
    • Just a  follow up, I had the best lessons ever on gears with the best instructor! Wish I would’ve made the drive earlier in the year but put it together during a golf trip. Gears was incredible to see your swing in 3d with all the necessary data. I’ve had very few formal lessons in the past and a couple online but nothing compared to working with Erik. He made it  very comfortable and relaxed, patient with all my  questions and showed some swing comparisons of pros swings.    Our main focus was getting the pelvis to move in a better pattern and when he first pushed on my hip with that pvc going back it was like a “wow” moment. And to see the affects in real time just made it quicker to adapt and learn how to find it again, however, even without gears I’m sure it would’ve been an awesome lesson..it’s just nice for some players to see the facts, no debate… At the end of the 1st session I was shocked at the video seeing my pelvis move better, hips open, no early extension. I was literally like I can’t believe that video capture is me! I’m glad I had a second session the following morning, just to reinforce the earlier ideas and work on the next piece to complete the movement, and we still had plenty of time to mess around with lower priority ideas for later. I left that afternoon armed with a practice plan, he took extra time to show me what to look for on my own video and I got a copy of LSW. We’ll continue on evolvr for checkups until another road trip for sure! I also just ordered the stack system with his discount code to work on some speed training as well.    Just wanted to share my appreciation for all Erik’s help and anyone finding there way here like I did over the winter to give it a try!
