I recommend anything with an insert..You can't go wrong with an Odyssey--I really like the DFX series--you know the black charcoal ones--they are very smooth and cost little

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

I love my Fat Lady...

The first thing I'd do is determine what putters you like the look of best. After you've figured out which one(s) you like the look of then hit putts and see which of the putters you like the feel of best (weight, shape, and insert will be a few things that will effect the feel of a putter). Finally make sure you get a putter that is the proper length for you (many people buy putters that are too long for their build and putting posture).

Truthfully it doesn't matter if you have a $1 putter or a $300 putter. The fact that people can take a wedge, hybrid, fairway wood, etc and make putts with semi-regularity shows that you don't need a bunch of fancy features and an expensive putter to make putts.

In my bag:

Driver: Burner TP 8.5*
Fairway metals/woods: Burner TP 13* Tour Spoon, and Burner TP 17.5*
Irons: RAC MB TP Wedges: RAC TPPutter: Spider Ball: (varies ) (Most of the time): TP Red or HX Tour/56---------------------------------------------------

Go to the pro shop and putt until you find one you like, maybe even get fitted for a putter, then buy it used on ebay. Golf clubs depreciate in value really fast once they're used. If you change your mind, you'll probably be able to sell it for about the same price you paid. I've done this with 4 different putters until I found my Heavy, a few different sets of irons, and I'm currently playing with different drivers. My latest purchase was a TM Burner 460 (demo) for about $80. I'm skying it really bad so that's probably going back on ebay too.

By the way, clean the club and take pictures of it outside. It will sell for a lot more if you have good pictures.

driver: G10 draw 9 degrees
hybrids DWS 16 and 20 degrees
irons: x-16 3-pw
wedges: 588 RTG 51, 56 & 60
putter: Heavy Putter B3-Mball: hx tour (I'll switch after I lose these)

Good advice.

My take is that the putter will pick you and then you will know. Those that search for the perfect putter never find it because it doesn't exist. Putting is about confidence. Now with that all said, I like the Odyssey Rossie. It picked me 10 years ago and we have been a team since. Like Avid said, you need to start with some basics and go from there. Once your putter has picked you (maybe with a little help from a PGA friend) you must trust it. Again, putting is about confidence. Of course if your putter fails you then you must punish it. My Rossie was in time-out for a month and has been much better since then.

Putting has been the least of my issues in golf and I'm still using my 25 year old Slotline inertial weighted.

my buddy used a miniature golf putter for the longest time. hes a pretty low handicap. i never knew why he used the crappy thing until i noticed how well it worked for him. He is a fantastic putter and thats why he shoots well, because of the black rubber putter he stole from Family Fun Center.
