I just heard Jim Nantz say he is only the 13th player under the age of 23 to win a PGA Tour event since 1973. He joins an excellent group of golfers and he's the fourth Nike guy to win, this year.

Maybe he'll even be the 7th to win two majors before 30.

Greetings ....

And it would seem he wishes to play for the Americans, instead of gathering International Team points for the Presidents' Cup like I think a certain other American born player is doing.

Uhm, call me "prepared to say I was wrong" at this point.

Hehe, as will I...well I could point out, however, that we are all technically right (except for those that chose 'never') since within 5 years means he did just that!

Anyway, I was really impressed yesterday. It really had a Tiger-esque feel the way he was just on target (with the exception of 16 and 17) and letting all the pressure sink away. Still had that swagger, but how could ya blame him? He was coasting past the entire field AND THEN SOME!! EDIT - It was also cool to finally see his swing up close more. Before he was making final pairings, coverage would rarely go near him. Now, we got that Konica Minolta K-Mart swing vision thingy on him...SWEEEEEET

The kid is going to do great things now that he has learned to keep his emotions under control.

The oft mentioned Ron del Barrio , who reads this forum, coached Tony Kim for years.

But why didn't Nike give him a shaft length that fits..instead of him gripping down/choking up?

If it isn't broken...

I like to choke up 3/4" too.

Well, with all that Nike does for Tiger, Anthony is lucky his irons aren't limited to 5 and 8.

Just kidding. There are some possibilities here: * That's how he prefers to swing, so he has a longer shaft and grips down. * He might not do it all the time, and is doing it for a different type of shot. Either he's holding back, or holds it different for a draw/fade, or something. * Maybe the grip tore mid-round and he didn't get it replaced?

Congrats to Anthony Kim on the win! It was impressive to say the least. He seems to have all the tools, but he will have to keep it together mentally as well. If he does, the sky is the limit.

As for the near future, don't be surprised to see Kim miss the cut at The Players this week. He will get a crazy amount of media attention, and he played horrible last year at this tourney. That's a bad combo for a young first-time winner.

Many players/pros grip down/choke up for distance control or a difficult stance. If I'm between a 6 and 5-iron, I would choke down on a 5-iron and take a 3/4 swing. Another example is if I'm playing from a fairway bunker, I would take an extra club and choke down on it since my feet are below the ball, thus preventing me from hitting it fat.

Back to Anthony Kim. When I voted on this poll, I voted "Never" because I read the question wrong. I thought the post asked "How long before Anthony Kim wins a 'MAJOR' instead of a PGA Tour event?" Now someone should go start a poll for that.
