I'm neutral on QEII however my wife is a little more into it that I am.  Overall I feel she deserves respect for her accomplishments and also acknowledge short-comings (as with all of us).  I do not expect citizens of other nations to "Like" our leaders but do appreciate appropriate respect and even though she was a figurehead she did have influence and I will respect her for her position.

As for the "Drama" that is royal family life, I could care less.  Some of it sounds like "Housewives" which is just of zero interest to me.

Ah yes!
Good thing my student loans are paid off, because the powers that be would revoke my history degree for forgetting the "second war of independence".

But really the War of 1812 is not nearly as hip as the American Revolution.
One gave us independence, crossing the Potomac & Benedict Arnold.
The other the Star-Spangled Banner and the burning of the white house!

As previously stated you have to honor or respect a 96 year old figurehead who spent that much time on the job. one hopes she left the world better than she found it!

However, as part of the monarchy, which we separated from way back in 1776, and subsequently fought a war over, I have very little use for the Queen and the British empire.
I would like to think that many looked fondly upon the British monarchy because QE2 was likeable.
However one hopes that soon the British monarchy will not last past the next few Kings or Queens.
And having built its wealth by possessing and ruling other countries as well as its own citizens, one would hope that the British people follow the rest of the countries who have declared independence from the monarchy!

The reality is the the Royal family bring in an enormous income. Only 15% of the money created through their estate goes to supporting them, the rest goes to the government. This is without the revenue generated through tourism. It is a complete myth the Royal family cost the tax payer money, the people that cost us money are the ones who refuse to contribute

I did not know this. Thanks for the info.

I still find it baffling that the monarchy owns all the land in England and lets the people rent it for a number of years, unless the Queen/Kind bequeaths it to them.

The idea of a Monarchy in 2022 just has a 15th century feel to it!

The queen/king may technically have the right to all the land, but doesn't own it as such. They also own all the swans, dolphins and whales, but you never see him with one😁,  They also have nothing to do with politics or policy. The king is the head of state, and a great revenue earner. Personally I love the tradition behind having a monarch.

I also learned years ago that all the deer in Richmond park belonged to the Queen and now KCIII. Thanks for filling us in on this information.

How does the king earn revenue?

Only 15% of the revenue from the Royal Families estate goes to keeping the Royal Family (25% whilst Buckingham Palace is being refurbed). The remainder goes to the government. This in essence makes them self funding. On top of that there is the vast amount they bring in through tourism, although this is hard to measure. Finally, every time they travel to another country it has a bearing on trade deals, and that's why they do it. Hope that answers your question

The royal family costs the taxpayers a huge sum a year, I don't know the exact amount, ballpark figure is 300 million pounds? Not to mention much of what they earn is because hundreds of years of colonialism and appropriating for itself the natural resources of countless countries, slave trade, etc... The East India Company did a ton of awful things.

How is the revenue for the Royal Families generated? Farming, mining?

I realize revenue was earned for tourism and that would be hard to measure.

Then the British taxpayer must be grumbling about continuing to bear the burden of the sovereign grant, no?

Only 15 percent of the royal families estate goes into keeping them, the rest goes to the inland revenue. Needless to say that makes them self funding, to say the least. On top of that there is the unmeasurable amount they bring in through tourism. Of course, don't forget that every time they make a foreign trip it will be linked to some type of international deal. In brief, the revenue generated by the royal family is immense. I would say they may be our greatest export

A lot of it comes from real estate.   They own a number of individual properties that seem to generate income as well as large tracts of commercial property.   Own is actually a loose word.  From my understanding, decades ago much of the properties that the royals owned were given back to the government.   In exchange they receive a percentage of the profits for their operating costs and then the rest goes to the government.

Ah, the British Hollywood. I agree that the romance of living flesh and blood royalty cannot be overestimated.

I did further research last week after my post and it seems I stand corrected.

I think that remaining royalty does not have the magnetism of the late Queen though. King Charles comes across a bit smug for my taste. But I do wish the mega fauna continues to prosper for you all's sake.

    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
    • I know Dean Snell designed the original Pro V along with a couple of other brands tour balls.  How exactly does the Snell ball have problems.  Did he change something in the design or is a manufacturing error since he cannot afford the unlimited R&D budgets of the big manufacturers to iron out flaws
