I don’t see how Australia makes it out of this group.  I had France and Denmark and I’m sticking to it.

It’s on

First game Morroco - Croatia 0 - 0

It was suppose to be a Croatian win, so ending in a tie is a huge disappointment for them for sure.

Germany - Japan is on now and I have Germany winning, although it seems nothing is a given this WC so far.

Japan in a stunning win over Germany!

Not sure anyone expected that one!!

2 - 1 Japan over Germany

Spain is making quick work of Costa Rica and looking damn good doing it too.  4 - 0 at this point!

Canada should have it’s hands full against Belgium who are a power house.

Some good games

Canada played really well if it were for one amazing play by Belgium to secure the only score of the game.  0 - 1

Some great games yesterday which concluded the first round of games for all countries.  To recap.

POR - GHA 3 - 2

Game of the day imo with no goals in the first half and then a 5 goal explosion in the second.

49722454-8F86-4A52-A8CE-E8AE8E5A7EE1.jpeg

BRA - SRB 2 - 1

It was close for most of the game but Serbia couldn’t hold Brazil down towards the end.  It also had the goal of the tournament, just amazing.

Game of the day today should be England - USA can’t wait to see how it goes, with England being the favorites in it, but let’s hope for an upset.

Iran - Whales 2 - 0

This pretty much ends Whales chances of making it to the 2nd round.

Also, must share this.

An absolute beauty of a goal! I’m not sure why USA can’t watch tapes and learn that 1-2 touches inside the 18 are a must. They also can’t comprehend that shooting outside the 18 is in fact allowed.

With their power and the quality of the ball ( I got to juggle one at a World Cup store in Disney Springs) it’s a huge threat to take those open shots. Instead they piddle around with the ball hoping to get a tap in. It’s maddening to watch.

Qatar - Senegal 1 - 3

Qatar will pretty much find themselves out of this WC.

Netherlends - Ecuador should be a good match, but I’m still more interested in US - England.

They should take more shots outside the 18’ but no one is really doing it right now, I think Iran has only goal from outside.  But doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try, if there is a threat it will open it up more inside as ol defenders will actually try and cover.

It makes you think though that either England is that good they beat Iran that beat Whales that tied the US?  In theory US will get pummeled, but I’m hoping for an upset.

Can't say I've watched much of this at all.

Would it not be the strategy of the U.S. to back up the bus, as they say and play for the draw or perhaps a lucky breakaway?

A "pummeling" might not be likely in such a situation.

Pretty much how they’ve always played, which is why we’re never a factor in the WC. Brazil….offense and more offense. US makes a goal and all of a sudden all players convert to being fullbacks. Zero aggressiveness offensively. Doesn’t work.

Ditto

It might work for 1 game but overall it’s a failing strategy at all levels of the sport.

Can only defend for so long before your asked to score.

Fair enough, but probably not the recipe for a "pummeling".

Great Half

They are definitely playing much better than they did against Whales so far.  It would go a long way for them if they can pull this one off.

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.
