He was 72. The Immaculate Reception was in 1972. The Steelers were set to retire his number this Saturday, one day after the 50th anniversary of the IC (December 23, 1972).

As a Steelers fan, especially sad day. It would’ve been nice for him to get through the next week

I'm glad the clip here shows all 3 replays. A lot of folks only show the one. (which is usually that last one) I always think the second replay shown here is the best one, and for some reason that's the rarest one.

I was alive for this play, but I was just under 2 years old so obviously I don't remember it live. But I was a Steelers fan growing up and this play will always be an important part of Steeler history, its an important part of NFL history as well.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Growing up a Browns fan, I absolutely hate the Steelers. But I have to give respect to those teams. Franco (among other Steelers) would kill the Browns every year.  Great player.

My bag:

Taylor Made R7 (x-stiff).
Taylor Made Burner 2 irons (stiff)
Cleveland Wedges (gap and 60)
Odyssey two ball putter (white)

In ’72 I was stationed in Germany, and I was jumping out of airplanes for the US Army. TV was Armed Forces Network and we watched what was shown, there wasn’t a choice and fortunately at that time of year it was football. A sergeant in my platoon would have people to his house for the weekend football games. I was lucky enough to see the game and see the play when it happened, well on taped delay anyway.

R.I.P Franco. 72 years old is far too young.

That's cool.

I have to confess I've never seen that view.

Maybe they didn’t have access to that view in Chicago Pub schools

I was a 12 year old Steeler fan back then. It was a remarkable play. Bradshaw did a remarkable job even getting the pass off. RIP Franco.

I was a huge Steelers fan back in the day.    Sad that they waited so late for the honor.     RIP!

    • I  had to return to boast  just a  bit. Everyone  knows  i thought  this  is  how the Championship should  be decided. Match play is far  better than stroke  play to determine a  champion and  its  much closer to most sports  playoffs. Lose and you are  out.     Promotion, relegation and match play: PGA Tour unveils radical new structure The PGA Tour has revealed its planned changes to its competitive model, schedule and playoffs, changes that will be more substantial than any in the Tour's half-century-long history. How will the PGA Tour series wrap up its season? The current PGA Tour playoff format consists of three stroke-play events, concluding with the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. Starting in 2028, the Tour's playoff system will feature match play, and will rotate through various courses. Further details will be revealed at this year's Tour Championship next month.
    • Posted a couple swings here. I think my attempt to blend the movement still results in a more “around” back swing?
    • I never heard dislike for them.  From my perspective, they are just like any other club. Though, they were always probably over-priced, until recently as other club manufacturers have been raising prices the past 5+ years. You had to wait for them to go on sale, which you can get them closer to other club manufacturers.  They sell good clubs. Nothing crazy..
    • Why do so many people dislike PXG clubs and constantly criticize them? All the folks at my club and especially online, I never hear good things about them except from people who bought them and defend them. They look fine to me but curious is there some sort of quality issue or is it just stereotyping the buyers.
    • I have the LM1 launch monitor and I’ve been very impressed. I agree with your assessment and it’s very accurate for me and ease of use is wonderful. The price point of $199 is very hard to beat with this form factor and performance. I was previously using a PRGR.
