Starting a planning thread for an outing in western NY (Buffalo to Corning/Elmira corridor, location TBD). For those interested in multi-day options I could be up for playing on Friday Aug 25 and/or Sunday Aug 27. Based on interest and geography we'll pick location(s) to play. If you are in this region and have a course to recommend, please include that in your reply. I'll take on coordination role for this outing.

Note - I swapped in NJ for MI in this thread, though of course nobody is excluded. If you want to travel, travel!

I’ll be in my college season by that point, so I’m out. Good luck.

I know @RFKFREAK was looking at coming to Erie earlier in August or even the very end of July too.

That’s mostly for instruction. Maybe some play with others.

I can probably make it, I'm about 4 hours east (hudson valley). Willing to car pool (ride/drive) if makes sense for anyone.

So far we are at 3 total. Hoping for at least one more! I could probably convince one of my locals to join to round things out. @mohearn I'm sure we can work out something to keep your drive manageable.

I could probably play in this either day and perhaps help find a course.

Excellent - looks like we at least have a foursome:

@RFKFREAK

@Carl3

@mohearn

Probably wise to start recommending venues. @Carl3 feel free to propose some options. If we wanted to make things easier for our eastern NY attendee then perhaps Mark Twain (Elmira) or Hiawatha Landing (near Binghamton) would be good. Also, @mohearn I've got plenty of space here at Keuka Lake for you to do a stayover if we did something more in the Rochester - Buffalo corridor.

Yeah, I was going to say, with 100-150 miles from Albany would be my preference.

My club is about 40 miles directly south of Buffalo, which may be a little too far for everyone. However, we have reciprocals with some that are east such as Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan, Caledonia Country Club (Caledonia), Mendon Golf Club (Mendon), and Webster Golf Club (Webster, east of Rochester). I can get a foursome out to these.

Christian and Mohern can see if they think they are a reasonable drive and worth the squeeze. I think they would all be fairly close to you Chris.

Lakeside is my home course and it looks like we have similar reciprocal lists. As much as I love my home course I'd love to play somewhere else for this outing. Webster and Caledonia have been on my want-to-play list for a while, but quite a haul from Albany.

Looks like the midpoint between Buffalo and Albany is in the Ithaca / Elmira / Binghamton area. Looks like it would be 150-200 miles for you @Carl3; I have an overnight option for you on Keuka to make your return home easier.

@mohearn what town are you coming from? Lower Hudson valley area? And how is this sounding @RFKFREAK? Chime in and we can start to settle on a concrete plan.

If those places are around 100 or 200 miles from Albany then cool.

@Carl3remind me, where would you be coming from?

I'm in Poughkeepsie. Hiawatha is about 3 hours, probably my limit. Makes for a long day to turn it around in a day.  I have half a thought of driving early Friday and playing Tom Coyne's (Paper Tiger author) course in Liberty (Sullivan County GC) and then overnighting in Binghampton.   Fairly flexible, too bad we can't entice another foursome, I hear it's going to be great. :-)

    • A 5400 yd course is not that short for gents driving it 160 yards considering the approach shot lengths they are going to be faced with on Par 4s.  Also, for the course you are referring to I estimate the Par 4s have to average longer than 260 yds, because the Par 5s are 800 yds or so, and if there are four Par 3s averaging 130 the total is 1320 yds.  This leaves 4080 yds remaining for 12 Par 4s.  That is an average of 340 per hole. Anyway, if there are super seniors driving it only 160ish and breaking 80 consistently, they must be elite/exceptional in other aspects of their games.  I play a lot of golf with 65-75 yr old seniors on a 5400 yd course.  They all drive it 180-200 or so, but many are slicers and poor iron players.  None can break 80. I am 66 and drive it 200 yds.  My average score is 76.  On that course my average approach shot on Par 4s is 125 yds.  The ten Par 4s average 313 yds.  By that comparison the 160 yd driver of the ball would have 165 left when attempting GIR on those holes.
    • I don't think you can snag lpga.golf without the actual LPGA having a reasonable claim to it. You can find a ton of articles of things like this, but basically: 5 Domain Name Battles of the Early Web At the dawn of the world wide web, early adopters were scooping up domain names like crazy. Which led to quite a few battles over everything from MTV.com You could buy it, though, and hope the LPGA will give you a thousand bucks for it, or tickets to an event, or something like that. It'd certainly be cheaper than suing you to get it back, even though they'd likely win. As for whether women and golfers can learn that ".golf" is a valid domain, I think that's up to you knowing your audience. My daughter has natalie.golf and I have erik.golf.
