Playing in Wednesday Night league yesterday. I saw a player with a Giant Cobra Staff Bag.

Never seen anyone using a staff bag before. Granted it was on a cart, but it was huge. The funny thing about it was that it only had a 6 way divider on top. With it being so large I fully expected a 14 or 15 way divider. hmm...

Have you ever seen anyone using a Staff Bag before?

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

I have, I think they're cool (specifically the blue gradient one Mizuno has, and some limited-edition ones), but if you're not actively on tour, leave it at home for an office or sim piece. Part of the reason they are so large is to have big of an area as possible to plaster sponsors on it.

IMO you have to be a REALLY good player to not look like a tool, but that's just my opinion 🤷‍♂️.

I have an old Titleist Staff bag I got to store clubs and shafts in my basement. Got it for $25 and few years ago. Cannot imagine carrying it on a course.

I have a pair of staff bags. One is a Vessel 5SK logoed one, one is a titleist one in my office that holds a bunch of putters.

But… I'm a pro. So… it's pretty common.

Before I got my push cart, I road a lot, so I had a Ping Staff bag for a few years. It is still in the basement.

Addendum, mix up on staff versus stand bag. 🤣 Never mind.

The one the guy I saw had looked like this: king-cobra-10-staff-bag.jpg.e24c7eede1a6dd6479731d649b1c0e81.jpg At least pretty close.

It was ginormous. Which is great if you want to carry your lunch, a change of clothes, several boxes of balls, a telescope, and maybe your first born with you. But otherwise it seemed a bit impractical.

The leather was really nice though. It looked and felt expensive.

I love this bit from CaddyShack. With Rodney's giant Staff Bag.

So yesterday I happened to find myself in a Play-It-Again sports and they had that very Cobra Staff Bag for $150.00.

It looked to be in perfect or near-perfect condition. I immediately wondered if the guy I saw using it on Wednesday had hocked it at Play-It-Again. 😁

I have a Titleist one that I use with my electric trolley. Fits perfectly on there and I don't care about the weight because I'm not carrying it or pushing it. I have room for everything I could need and when it's hot I have plenty of room for lots of water.

I did for years.  Honestly, I prefer them.  Unfortunately, they are just too big and bulky now that I am a super senior.  I really do not like the 14 way top on bags.  Seems my clubs get all twisted and mangled together in a 14 way top.  They make some light weight smaller staff bags and I am looking at several now.

Unless you're a pro, I think showing up at the golf course with a staff bag puts a golfer into the "Hi, look at me, I'm a douche!" category.  These are the same guys who have one of those fake leather pocket folders that hold yardage books or scorecards. Having a staff bag puts you right there, especially if you're at a club with a caddy. Ask him what he thinks about staff bags.

I unknowingly ordered what would sort of be considered a staff bag. It is the 14 divider version of the Titleist staff bag and was stated on the website to be a staff bag "light" (Titleist Tour Premium Cart Stadry), but it is pretty big. Love it though.

    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
