Scioto Country Club, Columbus, OH

Lucky guy. I had a chance last October but it fell through. Mine to date is Bethpage Black -- unreal course.

And I'm pretty sure I caught your sarcasm about the USGA messing Scioto up. Nice.

Cypress, eh? Certainly one of the best in the world. Many pros say it's their favorite. I've been sitting all night with my wife out by the fire pits at the Inn at Spanish Bay hoping I run into a member who will invite me on.... I won't hold my breath and will be happy with Pebble and the others.

yeah, we had a lucky weekend where we played Pebble, Cypress and both Monterey Peninsula courses in 2 days. Definitely worth doing if you can. the Shore course at MPCC is outstanding.

I'd have to say at this time, that I have not played alot of top notch courses.. not going to lie I just can't afford them. But, I'll say Rum Pointe in OC, MD and Scotland Run in Turnersville NJ (played with 3 wrx's, terribly I played but I played)

I've played lots of great course, just to name a few.

Pebble Beach North and South. As far as I know, there's just one Pebble Beach course. Which is probably the nicest course I've played.

I've been pretty lucky and in my quest to play the Top 100 courses in the US over the last year I've managed to play about 20 top notch courses. I have a website at www.itinerantgolf.com with details of my experiences if anyone is interested. My Top 5 in no particular order so far are:

Cypress Point Club
National Golf Links of America
Sage Valley Golf Club
Shinnecock Hills Golf Club
Pebble Beach Golf Links

I've got Merion, Winged Foot and Pine Valley among others coming up this summer so my Top 5 could certainly change.

Wintonbury Hills GC (my team's home course!)

Would have had the chance to play Newport CC if I didn't blow up in the prior Varsity Match at Yale (a great course itself) and get demoted to JV. (I went +9 on holes 8 and 9 to shoot 46 on the par 34.)

3 nice courses...too bad they are private/somewhat elitist. but that is the story for most nice courses:

Funny you say two Massachusetts courses and you're from Cali. I've played both, I worked at Salem and got a hotel room with a stay and play at Ferncroft to play the course but slept at my house 15 mins away, and i think that Salem was not all its cracked up to be, maybe because I had a bad experience with my boss and the members, while Ferncorft is a very nice course.

Anyway sry to hijack the thread. The best courses I've played is either The Dunes in Myrtle or Miromar Lakes in Ft. Myres.

Pine Needles. They had the US Womens Open there last year. Awesome, awesome track.

Old North State (NC) and Caledonia (South of Myrtle Beach) are the other two I am very fond of as well.

Fairways and Greens.

The nicest course I have ever played is Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey (a Tillinghast design that is going to host the Barclay's this August), where I was a guest of a golf camp acquaintance last summer. From the moment you begin your drive up, until you leave, the service, and class of everyone there was top notch, and the course was phenomenal. We played the Center and West 9's (its a 27 hole complex). Very special place.

I also played Lahinch in Ireland, and that was probably the most pure golf experience I have ever had.

lucky punk. how'd you play?

Doubled 17 to shoot 80 (the caddie told me to make sure not to leave it short - but I did). Missed a 15 footer for birdie on 18 to get it back in the 70's. I was sick.
