That's definitely not true, considering he gives me free lessons all the time and free range balls. I thought shooting mid-high eighties for only playing a few months was good, but it seems most people are saying that I am not worthy of a compliment!

i'm not saying he's not as good as he says he is. i'm just saying there is still a possibility that the teacher might be trying to line his pockets with dead presidents....

I went to the putting green today, and putted for about 2 hours. Unfortunately, my putting was pretty weak with my putts going all over. I have decided to take a putting lesson from another golf pro and see what he has to say, and if I should consider looking for a new putter. I can't seem to keep my putter in a pendulum motion consistently.

Here is a little tip that we all can try out. To make more putts, your palms must be squared with each other. To properly feel this grip, take a scrap 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 piece of wood, maybe 12" long. Grip it with a hand on each side, with your palms gripping the 2" side. Then practice your stroke, this is what a square grip should feel like. Now just take that feeling and grip and use it on your putter. Try it, when I keep my palms squared, I really make alot more 10' and shorter putts. If you have trouble still feeling the squared grip, try going to an oversize putter grip, or just go to your local sporting goods store and get a few tennis grip overwraps, build up your grip until it feels comfortable.

For me, I think he's definitely worthy of a compliment. I'm more curious than anything. I've played with a lot of people who have told me they shoot in the 80's and then when I take them to a course I play they A. either shoot over 100 or B. They play winter rules year round, don't count topped balls or OB from the tee and I usually find out they only shoot in the 80's when they play a wide open muni with no hazards and you can drive all of the Par 4's, still playing by those rules.

So...my curiosity about rating was genuine. I have a course here that I can shoot in the low 80's on legitimately, but like I said, I can drive all but 1 of the Par 4's and there is not Par 5 that you aren't hitting an 8 iron into for your second shot. But the courses I play regularly have 500+ yard Par 4's that are uphill the whole way for example. I'm just trying to get a perspective.

The course I play at usually is pretty long, considering it is practically impossible for anyone to drive any of the par 4's, being that the shortest is about 300 yards, which I usually hit two 6 irons to anyways. No par 5's can be hit in 2 without a 300+ yard drive, and I can only drive about 270 max, usually about 240-250. I never take any gimmies or mulligans, so I can keep as legitimate of a round as possible, and I ususally shoot about an 87. I am going to try the squared palms next time I go out to the putting range. Thanks for the tips.
