Anyone see the 'event' put on by CBS!!! To bad the Lawler vs Smith fight had to be stopped! Girls fight was not bad either.

The WEC on VS channel last night was great...every fight was very good. The UFC needs to add the 145 & 135 weight classes....these guys put on a show!

Yeah, I'm a huge MMA fan and watched the events this weekend. The EliteXC event on CBS turned into a joke though with the stoppage in the main event. It's no secret Kimbo is their golden child (for some stupid reason), but he isn't half as good as people think. He would be tapped out by any HW in the top 50.

The other fights were very good though, and the Smith/Lawler was a potential fight of the year candidate before being stopped by the doctor. I'm looking foward to that rematch. Finally, I haven't watched many female fights, but that was damn good action. Gina Carano is a bad bad woman!

As for the WEC event last night, every fight other than the first was pretty damn strong. I was happy to see Mark Munoz (Oklahoma State guy) win by TKO. The Bantamweight Title fight was really action-packed as well, and hopefully they will rematch later this year. The main event was very good, and it was good to see Faber dominate on the feet as well. Pulver was a tough test and has a rock-solid jaw, but The California Kid was too much.

It was a good weekend to be an MMA fan, and UFC 85 should be fun as well this upcoming weekend. I'm looking foward to seeing if Alves can hang with Hughes, and I'm looking forward to seeing the Davis/Swick bout.
Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

The EliteXC fight was entertaining, but it didn't represent the current state of MMA. They were banking on the street fighter image that was portrayed many years ago. The announcers were a joke at best. I've never liked Mauro, even when he was doing Pride fights. One of them even compared Kimbo to Tiger Woods. Now that was hilarious.

But since I'm an MMA nut (I've been a fan since 1991), I'll watch anything to support the sport and it's fighters. The WEC card however was AMAZING! Miguel Torres is one scary dude. Complete fighter from top to bottom.

I'm looking forward to this weekend's fights, more for Vera vs Werdum. I think that's a good matchup.

Big fan here too, and took the good with the bad Saturday night. I didn't expect a spectacular show, so I wasn't as disappointed as some. Kimbo is either very raw or very over rated. He has zero ground game, and would probably get canned by every heavyweight on the UFC roster for sure. Wake me up when he fights someone of "today".

Watching Kimbo Slice reminds me of an argument we had on another forum: Floyd Mayweather fighting MMA. There is so much more to MMA than just boxing or street fighting. A guy like Slice does a disservice to all the guys who have trained all their lives in MMA and never get a shot. I guess when you're an upstart league you need as much publicity, as possible.

WEC is owned by Zuffa, UFC's parent company...so not gonna happen. I feel like thats the reason they bought/created WEC (not sure which)...to cover the lower weight classes.

Wow yeah, what of weekend of MMA for me. I hadn't seen UFC 84 yet so that, WEC,the CBS show and last week's Ultimate Fighter was waiting for me at my friend's house. The Pulver/Faber fight was probably the most exciting. But BJ Penn kicking Sherk's butt was pretty rad too. It was hilarious to see the ref, Yves Lavigne, fall down then bounce right up. The crowd started laughing which made him chuckle too. Comedy.

But that fight with the 135lb'ers Maeda and Torres really delivered. When Maeda got Torres in that crazy leg bar I though he was going to rip his foot right off, I had to turn away. Then Torres got him in the same leg bar, then they both started delivering heels to each other's ribs. Crazy!

I don't know how many of you are into Ultimate Fighter on Spike but I like Amir to go to the finals. I'm thinking of getting some "Amir lines" on the side of my head at my next haircut too!

Whao, I just went to BJ Penn's website to check out tshirts and found that the shirt he was wearing pre fight was sold out. The same shirt selling for $30 on his site, is selling to upwards of $100 on ebay... '

Big MMA fan here. The EliteXC card was a joke IMO. If Kimbo is their golden boy (which he is) theyll go the way of the Dodo very quickly. Pretty much any decent HW would absolutely destroy him within 1 round. He has no ground game, no stamina and no take down defense. Thompson isnt even an average fighter, subpar would be a generous grade for him, and he gave Kimbo more than he could handle.

I always refer to the WEC as the Triple A of the UFC. I really think thats a good way to look at it other than the 145/135lb weight classes. I was impressed with Faber but now dont really know where he'll go to get a competitive fight. He reminds me of Tyson in that he has a great record but no names on it. His first good competition took him through all 5 rounds and he was unable to finish Pulver.

My biggest fear, and its quickly happening, is that MMA will stumble down the same dark and completely BS path that boxing has and there will be 8 "World" Heavyweight champs etc. With EliteXC, UFC, WEC, Dream, HDNet etc. it is quickly becoming a joke. While with the UFCs purchase of Pride serving as a slowing of the process, with Emelianenko signing with M1 and other top level fighters going to other promotions it sure doesnt look good for the future of the MMA.

Yeah, I knew they 'owned' WEC, but those guys at those weight classes deserve to be ib the big show....rather watch 135 & 145 than Tim Silva fight any one! Heavy weights in UFC not much to watch these days...

Give The eliteXC a little time Kimbo is there "Golden Boy" right now but you can guarantee some big name fighters will come. I know Tito Ortiz said he wont be fighting in the UFC anymore so I have a hunch he will be coming to the eliteXC it will take time but im sure it will be as good if not better than Most MMA events, the only thing I didnt like was the entrances a little to WWE ish for me haha

Just got my pair of BJ Penn training shorts. Got them from the place in the link, The Snowboard Connection for a little bit cheaper then I found anywhere else, plus, I got free shipping! This things are really light weight and ultra comfortable. Normally I'm a 31 waist, but that size isn't offered. These fit a little snug, thankfully I went with the 32s instead of 30s.

If elite XC keeps televising events like that they're quickly gonna gain alot of fans over the UFC. Like you said Lawler/Smith was nuts, the stoppage was unfortunate but probably warranted looking at the gash on Smith's head. As of now its where all the UFC rejects go but that could change as it grows, i enjoyed that event more than most of the UFC's i see. Even the women.

Uriah is like the Anderson Silva of 145, he made Jens look slow and old pretty much every round. Possible fights im looking forward to would be BJ Penn vs GSP 2. Dream fight would be GSP moving up to 185 and fighting Anderson Silva, 2 best strikers in the UFC would be sick.

Cant believe Amir ended the fight the exact same way the 2nd time out. CB's kind of a bitch, he taps right aways and then complains he didnt to save his ego. Thought he would redeem himself but im glad Amir won.

The other fights were a bit boring minus the Kendal Groves jumping knee.

    • @DeadMan, I think your approach makes sense. As @dennyjones said, consistency is the key.
    • Day 204 (22 Nov 24) - Weekly men’s group round today.  Temps in the upper 40’s, WNW winds 5-15mph - was the old man in the foursome (next youngest is my junior by 10yrs) - held my own against them.  Iron play getting more consistent -seeing predictable ball flights and distances. While the consistency coming around still had sone solid negatives as I had two dbls and one triple. On the plus side - eight pars and one birdie.
    • I don't think anyone will really care.   It's your call.  Just be consistent.
    • I agree, until we are watching the 18th hole in the dark or waiting for the champion to finish and it's been 5+ hours
    • Question for the group. The course I normally play at has 27 holes - 3 9s that they use to for 18 in the various combinations. Is it okay to declare* if I’m playing front or back when I play 9 on this course? I’m figuring I need to declare before I play a shot. *meaning just say to myself that this is the back 9. Curious what people think. Of course, my only holes left are 13 and 17, so I’m going to declare the back 9 for the rest of the year. Probably only one or two more rounds though.
