Well, it's never too early to start looking ahead to 2006. I figured I would use most of December previewing the upcoming 2006 season, which is only a month away. First up is the comeback players for next season. You will have to read Thrash Talk in the morning to see who my picks are, but in the meantime, I'll leave you with a couple questions.

1. Which golfers will have a comeback season in 2006?

2. Which golfers would you like to see have comeback seasons in 2006?

There ya go, and be sure to read Thrash Talk in the morning.

1. Ernie Els. Steve Flesch (played 30 events still 99th). Racco Mediate.

2. David Duval with out a doubt. Fred Couples/John Daly, not a comeback but would like to see him in the top 30 for the TOUR Championship.

"Comeback Player of the Year" is one of the gayest awards out there. "You really sucked last year, and you didn't suck quite as bad this year. Good job!"

I disagree obviously. I think it shows a lot of courage and hard work for golfers to fall in a slump and then get things right again. Not everyone can dominate like Tiger every single year. Guys fall on hard times, whether it's in their personal lives, mental aspect, etc.

It shows a lot of mental and physical strength to overcome their poor play over time. If David Duval makes a comeback next season, it will be great for golf and great for Duval. So yeah, I definitely think comeback player of the year is a big award.

The golfer I would like to see come back to his winning ways is Notah Begay III. Some of you may remember him as he won four tournaments on the PGA tour in 1999 and 2000. He was a member of the 2000 Presidents cup team where he played with his former Stanford teammate Tiger Woods. Since then he has struggled with injuries and finally lost his tour card last season. He is currently in Winter Garden, Florida preparing for the final round of the PGA tour qualifying school. I know Notah and have played several rounds of golf with him over the last 10 years. He is a good guy and I wish him the best in his comeback.

1. Ernie Els - I want to see if the knee injury is going to affect him at all. I don't know if you can really consider it a comeback or not.
2. Davis Love - OK, so he's not really a comeback player either, but other than 2003, he's only won 3 PGA Tournaments since his victory in the 1997 PGA Championship and none in 2004 or 2005. I want to see him win a couple in 2006 and be in the last group of one of the majors. I think you saw him turn a bit of a corner at the end of the year and it may mean good things for DLIII in '06.

Fairways and Greens.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
