Caddy.......Is it ok if you are high handicap

I have the oportunity to play in a course with caddies.
I am a 16-18 handicap.
Thought it would be an interesting experience but concerned it may look or be foolish at my level.

Do you know how many 16-18 handicaps there are in the world? Huge number. Don't worry about looking foolish. Use the caddy, they are there to help you and may increase your enjoyment of the round. You may even play better as a result... I've had opportunities to use caddies a number of times over the years and had others in my groups who were 20 handicaps use them, and for the vast majority it was a beneficial experience.

Don't worry about looking foolish. If you have an experienced caddie there is nothing they haven't seen. They've likely caddied for everyone from scratch to 36 handicappers. There are a wide range of caddies. Some are really helpful and some are not good at all. A good caddie who knows the course can save you strokes by reading the greens for you, showing you were trouble is and where the best place to land a shot is and help club you based on elevation changes, wind and slope and also by spotting your ball. Don't wory about it and enjoy the experience. If he's good don't forget a tip.

I'd go for it. If they are good they can really help in terms of course management. Have fun with it !

No don't worry, and if you're lucky, you'll end up with an experienced caddy who can actually make you play better golf.

I wouldnt worry about it. Its not as if its a rule that you have to be a great golfer to have a caddy.

Don't think twice about it. Every time I've had the opportunity to play with a caddy they have been great. Using their knowledge of the course distances and having a second opinion on putting reads have always helped me play better than my normal outing.

Only problem is the next time you go out, you'll be looking to hand your driver to someone who's no longer there

It's not foolish at all. A few months back, I had the pleasure of playing with someone who has played on the Senior PGA Tour. After a few holes, he asked me if I would mind if he gave me some advice. For three holes, he asked me questions and then recommended certain shots, based on my answers. The result was playing to par. Sure, it was only three holes but his information was invaluable.

Regardless of your cap, good information will put you in a position to execute and manage the course. Go for it. You have nothing to lose.

I've never played with an individual caddy, only 4-caddies (1/foursome) on several occasions and had 25+handicap at the time. They were extremely helpful, didn't mind showing reads or recommending shots and fetching balls out of the woods. Those folks really know the course so let them help you. But, like another poster said, treat them well in the end.
