I hadn't expected, although I'd pulled for him, Tommy Two-Gloves to be successful on the PGA Tour. It had actually been surprising for me to find he had qualified for the PGA Tour via "Q-School".

After a relatively promising "start" to 2008 - Tommy made the cut in three of his first six PGA Tour events of the year (T-69, T-54 & T-39) but has now missed the cut in his last ten PGA Tour events and hasn't made a cut since March.

It surely doesn't look good for Tommy, but - I guess - stranger things have happened.

From my perspective, Tommy gave it a good run, but he's just not good enough to be successful on the PGA Tour. Still I wouldn't mind being wrong . . .

Like I said in another thread, it only takes one good week to solidify his spot for next season. He can obviously make birdies, but he can't seem to finish things off during a round. He isn't as far away as some may think. He just needs one little thing to click the right way. Then again, a lot of pros can say that same thing.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

If you can get through Q-school you should be able to have some successes on the tour. Not saying he should be winning but he should have some good weeks. He may need to take a little time off and then start up again fresh. Hit the reset button as it were.

I think would full year on the Nationwide Tour, would make him a better tournament golfer.

i think he doesn't have what it takes. so far, all he has is some notoriety from from that tv show,( and he wears two gloves).

the only way i see him continuing on the PGA tour is by passing Q school in the future.

I agree with the comment that he needs some time on the Nationwide tour. He won tournaments on the minor tours, so he knows how to finish the deal.

Heck, with the purses what they are on the Nationwide, he could actually make a good long term living without ever needing to make it back to the big leagues.

When I was watching Q School last year, I remember hearing that the qualifyers were guaranteed endorsements worth over $160,000 - enough to pay expenses for the year. So for the people asking how the journeymen can make it on "The Tour", this is a big part of it. I've been going to the Texas Valero open for the past couple of years and even the guys you never heard of have full bag sponsors and shirts/hats full of logos. Each logo means money (I used to race autos and know the value of the "little squares").

After expenses, how many of you could live and thrive on base revenue of $160,000 per year? More than you would think!

That performance was doggone impressive. How could you not pull for him. I like Davis Love a lot but I was actually hoping he would bogey one of those holes down the stretch so he and Tommy would go into OT. $500,000 payday for Tommy. Good for him!

Wow, even on an NFL Sunday I was more captivated by Tommy Gainey trying for that win. Awesome effort.

Heck, I wanted DL III to bogey 17 and 18. Clutch putt on 17 and great sand save on 18.

Largest paycheck for a Big Breaker by far, nearly $500,000, but unfortunately it's the last event and not enough to give Gainey his card for 2009. But I think he moved into the top 150, which would be good enough to bypass this week's second stage of qualifying and move Gainey automatically into Q School finals in December.

That was a great finish, he did all he could in the final couple holes but DL III, hit a great bunker shot on 18, that would have been a great playoff.

Good Luck to him in the future.

Along with the trip to the Q-School finals, I think he's got a spot on the Nationwide Tour and he's got unlimited sponsors exemptions on the PGA Tour.

I thought I heard somewhere that he would be invited to play a handful of PGA evens just being in the top 150. I could of mis heard him, but I just wanted to bounce that idea out there and see what you have heard recently.

This might be what you're looking for (but then again it might not):

11. Sponsor exemptions (a maximum of eight, which may include amateurs with handicaps of 0 or less), on the following basis: a. Not less than two sponsor invitees shall be PGA TOUR members not otherwise exempt. b. Not less than two of the top 25 finishers and ties from the last Qualifying Tournament, as well as 2-25 from the 2007 Nationwide Tour money list, if not all of them can otherwise be accommodated. (Note: PGTA TOUR members may receive an unlimited number of sponsor invitations. Non-TOUR members may receive a maximum of seven per year.) Above clipped & pasted from this URL .

    • Birdied the par 5 #14 at Quail Brook GC. Hit a high draw 3W just short of the green on my second shot, chipped just right of the back right flag to about 12' and made the putt. It's starting to look like I'm going to get at least 20 rounds at Quail Brook for it to qualify as my home course but I've been adding the birdies there to my away composite for so long that I don't feel like separating it all now. So the away composite will simply be an aggregate of all my birdie holes for the year.

    • Congrats on the improvement. Cheers for lots of continued improvement in the future. IMO you've gotta get away from these spots… Those are partly "results" as the work will begin on things earlier in the swing. Good luck.
