I just needed to sound off about the love I have for my DVR cable package.
I truly don't think I could watch golf any other way, now that I'm used to not watching commericials.

The weather delayed PGA this weekend was a great example. I didn't need to turn on the golf until 5pm and I was caught up to the live action at the very end, when you actually want to be watching it live.

Good lord, did they commericial this event to death, or what? I didn't watch a single one.

Does anyone else find themselves rewinding a swing 12 times in slow-mo to analyze what a player is doing?

Let's hear it for the DVR.

I agree whole-heartedly, it seems that there were a TON of commercials in the PGA this year. I loved having it on DVR, except the fact that my DVR cut off right after Paddy and Sergio putted out on 17, I was LIVID!!!!

I've been using a DVR for over 5 years. They are awesome! I always record shows - live TV only for 'background' noise. Even then, I'll turn it on and pause it while I do stuff. This way I can still skip the annoying commercials. Watched the PGA this weekend in only a few hours. I can watch a whole football game in an hour if I want.

One hint - ALWAYS record at least 1/2 hour longer than the end of a live sports event. I'll usually do an hour extra just in case. This way, you don't miss the end of the event...

Yes I agree with that, I always leave an extra hour for live events. It was nice, I got home at 5pm Sunday and started watching, with fast forwarding through commercials and network filler I ended up finishing watching at 8:30 so I watched almost 6 hours of broadcast in 3 1/2 hours, love the DVR.

Completely agree here! I mean I just finished watching the PGA last night (Tuesday)!!! All I had to do was completely avoid all media outlets that pertain to sports lol...

As for recording live events, I always set it to record half an hour longer for the first three rounds and then manually change the final round to 2 hours over - just in case Rain delays are the worst!!! Edit - also, the 2 hours usually end up recording '60 minutes' So I have an option to watch that too!

Heheheh, honestly its a skill of mine that I've honed over the years. Not toot my own horn, but TOOT TOOT!

For example - I got Tiger's email newsletter but didn't read it until today because I knew he would mention the winner. Same applies for RSS readers - I purposely sorted my Google Reader Feeds to be from oldest to newest so that I could stop reading the news once it reached Sunday. I caught the final match of Wimbledon a day late utilizing the same techniques! Just gotta stick to your routine and trust your ears to not hear comments from strangers. (For example - I blasted my headphones while on the subway to work that day).

I can beat that.

I was watching the finish of the British only a couple of hours delayed, and Golf Magazine spammed me (subscriber) with an email with "Padraig Wins Open Championship" in the subject line . I sent them an email about how idiotic that was. They never bothered to respond. Guess who will not be renewing their subscription?

Ouch. That sucks.

Tell me about it.

I was able to find the email I sent to them in my Sent folder:
What the hell is wrong with you people? As I sat down to watch my TiVo of the British Open this morning (I'm on the West Coast, so the broadcast started at 3 a.m. my time), I get an email from GOLF MAGAZINE with this title: "Breaking News – Padraig Harrington wins British Open again" The name of the winner, in the TITLE so the recipient can't avoid reading it. Are you morons unfamiliar with DVRs, VCRs, and DVD recorders? Did you really think everyone was watching this in real time (and if they were, they didn't really need to know who the winner was from you, did they)? What about folks like me on the West Coast? What about folks just coming back from a Sunday morning round, and looking forward to watching their DVR? What possible reason could Golf Magazine have for sending out a mass spam spoiler with the name of the winner in the subject line - not the next day, not later in the day, but the very minute that the winner was determined?!?!?! Thanks for spoiling my Sunday. Can you guess if I will be renewing my subscription to your magazine? Perhaps I should have put the answer in the subject line of this email to spoil any suspense.

    • Day 54. Was in a good place last week. Yesterday’s round killed my confidence.  Full swing practice trying to get back to where I was but struggled with being tired and tense. Back to basics tomorrow.
    • Welcome back! Evolvr.com? I don't use the full extreme end of it, and that's probably dipped to 75% or so nowadays. But I use the sole more than I don't, yeah. Also… it's good to learn this shot: Middle up. Not generally outside your feet in either direction. I generally have it slightly forward of center, yeah. Short version: tip your upper body in the direction of the slope. Look at the GC3. You can find them for really good prices sometimes.
    • 3 rainouts in a row….that’s SAD Sorry, I’m in MI or I would take you up on a round.
    • Day 3:  I tried to hit a bucket at the range but an 80 year old man (he told me his age, showed me his knee replacement scars, told me all about his chronic low back pain, etc) couldn’t pass up the opportunity to mansplain to me every little thing I’m doing wrong.  Dude, it’s my third frickin day.  I know I need to twist my hips more, I know I need to keep my head/chest down and not pop up, I know I need to hit through the ball and follow through further, yada yada yada.  I know.  That’s exactly what I’m trying to work on.  How about you tell me or show me how to do those things instead of telling me to watch Iron Byron videos?  Rough day.
    • Day 132: 5/7/24 Full Speed Spectrum Training session 8/24. 7th training program overall.    Another slow session but 4 mph faster than my last session, which was my slowest ever. Going to the doctor on Friday to check on pulled neck muscle.
