We've all been there, desperately shouting commands at our wayward, slicing ball heading directly out of bounds... What I want to know is your most used phrase while your golf ball is in flight...

1. When you fear you hit it hard and it will over-fly your prefered landing area
2. When you may have caught it a little fat and you think it will fall short
3. When your ball is hooking sharply out of bounds or towards the water hazard
4. When your ball slices towards a hazard or O.B.

1. Sit! (common, I know )
2. Hustle!
3. *to playing partner* "Give me another ball..." (Lee Trevino "You can talk to a fade but a hook won't listen." )
4. Hold! Hold! or Get Lucky!

Being such a hacker it seems I rarely have a chance to say anything while the ball is actually in flight. But I think 90% of what I say on the course starts with, "Mother" and ends quite a bit worse than that...

But in all honesty I think I have only gotten mad twice - Once on about my 7th attempt to get out of a bunker and the second time when I missed a short putt for what would have been my first par ever.

Oh wait, now I know what I say the most. "Mulligan!"

Since it's a well known fact that I NEVER make a mistake, these expressions cover the four scenarios mentioned;
1. Looks like the wind's got it
2. Looks like the wind's got it
3. Looks like the wind's got it
4. Looks like the wind's got it

That 'bout covers it

Mine are pretty simple, really. I'm guessing here, trying to pretend I was in that situation. Here's what comes out:

  1. "Get down."
  2. "Get up. Bounce."
  3. "Quack."
  4. I can't say I've done this much in the past few years. I'm not a slicer. An overcooked hook is my miss.

funiest thing I've read this morning..:)

1. "Stop." 2. "God." 3. "F---." 4. "F---." but under my breath. to paraphrase..there's a funny comment in Rick O'Reily's book a few years ago..he was caddying for a guy at Augusta..the pro was talking to his ball in flight..then Rick decided to also "talk" to the pro's ball..the pro says to Rick.."Get your mouth of my balls."..gave me a chuckle.

Me neither... unless I lose concentration when going for a 'Big' one and fail to get the weight onto the inside of my back foot.

Thankfully this doesn't happen often, but when it does it's usually time to wave 'bye-bye' to the ball

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
