I have my current driver since about October of 2007. I have lost confidence with it but I have been working diligently with it. I only realistically use it about 2-3 times in an 18 hole round.

I have tried other clubs but I am actually longer and straighter with this current one.

With many clubs being so similar in design after reaching the limit of 460 ccs, it makes me wonder what advantage of 'upgrading' outside of getting a square club or one with adjustable weights/shafts.

Why does someone change their driver?

i think it gives people a reason for playing poorly.

"i was playing badly with my callaway driver, so i went out and got a Taylor Made burner. i shot the same score, but i hit my drives so much better!"

When I play early I use a 12 degree for carry. I go to the 10 degree draw when I can get some roll.

I changed mine for a few reasons. Last year I upgraded my 5 year old Cobra Ti Driver to the new 460cc Cobra driver. Used it for a year and really liked it. But eventually the sound caught up to me. It was truly the most forgiving driver I had ever hit. Then I started testing new ones. I really liked the new Cobra, Adams, FT-5, and G10. Cobra was once again eliminated because of sound. I went with the G10 for distance. I love it and have not looked back. Changing drivers makes more sense to me than someone changing putters. But again, it is all just feel and what feels right.

I only change drivers or clubs for that matter only if they are old, or broken.

I don't buy this crap where people are like.. I haven't been playing good with it lately so I decided to get something else. That really annoys me, but hey thats their decision.

I say suck it up, and learn to get better with your club, a new one is only gonna give you confidence for the first couple rounds. Quit wasting money.

I change a driver in order to get a combination of more distance and greater accuracy off the tee.

This early spring I went to the Golfsmith store in Memphis and tried several drivers on their launch monitor. After trying drivers made by TaylorMade (the #1 driver in golf), Cobra, Callaway and Titleist, I bought a Callaway Hyper X 10 degree, regular flex, stock Fujikura shaft, because I hit that driver more consistently and farther (as recorded on the launch monitor) than any other driver I tried. That choice of driver has proven out on the course: I've hit this driver longer and more accurately than any other I've owned.

Now if I try another driver with which I am able to better my effort, I will buy that one.

Why else would anyone want to change one's driver?

I had a R7 and bought the new cgb max,i hit the r7 better and further, the shaft in the new cgb max does not suit me,my playing partner still has the r7 and crushes it,i hit his an odd time and also crush it,i keep meaning to get fitted for my driver,if you ask me the head in any 460 doesn't make any difference only the shaft.

I generally keep my clubs for quite a while before I even consider getting something new.

That said, I just replaced my driver. My previous driver was an 8.5' Callaway HawkEye Pro Series with a Callaway 3.1 shaft (stiff flex, mid kickpoint, 4.5' torque rating). Due to the shaft in this driver I hit it pretty high and unless my timing was perfect I would have consistency issues (I was basically overloading the shaft). Believe it or not when I bought this driver it was actually an improvement over my stiff shafted 9' Callaway Big Bertha (which is why I got the HawkEye).

I just replaced this driver with a Callaway I-Mix (see sig). This combo works much better for my swing. Unless something major changes over the next 5-10 years I won't start shopping for a new driver until then. With the I-Mix system though, assuming Callaway keeps it up, chances are that I may change the configuration from time to time. I tried a lot of combinations before I bought my new driver and I really liked how I could change the ball flight with a quick shaft swap. I can see myself accumulating a few shafts over the next year or so.

Sometimes it's just nice to get a new look when you're addressing the ball. I always hit new clubs good! After a few months that wears off though..... HA!

I changed driver for distance and forgiveness. It sound like you are fine with the driver and need to work on your swing.

I would keep your current driver and improve your swing by practicing your chipping and pitching. believe it or not this will help your overall swing and your drives.

Once you develop a good technique on your chipping and pitch shots your drives will come around.

I changed out my driver after my starter driver was shown to be far inferior to my current driver.

Regardless of reason, there is no arguing about a performance boost, wether it be due to confidence or feeling more comfortable.

Hitting a club longer and straighter will get you to make the decision to swap out, especially if it is a part of your game you struggled with on your prior club.
