Steel shafted hybrids?

So is there a benifit to playing with a graphite hybrid as apposed to a steel shafted one. Ive never played a steel shafted hybrid but i would think i could get a better swing plane with one...

Any thoughts?

Being heavier, the steel shaft lets you stay aware of where the clubhead is. Might fix rhythm issues.

I have been considering re-shafting my Adams Boxer hyrbids with the steel shafts that are in my irons.

Any thoughts on whether this will do more harm than good?

I have a steel shaft on my 3 Hybrid and I love it. My irons are steel shafted so to me its more of hitting an iron than a wood so it seems that I get a lot better consistent contact with it and not so much my three wood. Of course it could be just a mental issue with me but when I have a longer shot I tend to grab my hybrid 90% of the time and just the three wood in the bag.

I've noticed I can't really tell from a hit where my ball is gonna go on my hybrids 100% of the time. My irons have true temper shafts and i get amazing feedback from them. With my hybrids, i just kinda hit and if i get a bad shot i can kinda tell. A horrible shot you can tell 100% but say i hit a small fade that is just in the dangerous territory i can't really tell from the feedback.

However, I WOULD not trade my shafts out on my hybrid. I play stiff shafts in my irons and hit them great, and regular on my hybrids. I take a nice soft swing with my hybrids and they are gone. The "whippyness" of graphite seems to help with that.

All of my hybrids have True Temper steel shafts. I personally like steel shafts better because they have pretty much the same feel that my irons have.
Some say that you get more clubhead speed with graphite, but I prefer steel.

I play graphite shafts on my hybrids, and have considered putting steel shafts on them. I don't seem to have the same control and understanding of where my ball is going. For now I'll stick with graphite but in the future I will be sure to try steel. Good luck!

I have a Halo 25 degree hybrid with a steel shaft that I once at a golf tournament and I like it very much, I would play the graphite shaft also since my woods are graphite.

try both and see what works for your game, wallet and what aspect of your game your are looking for.

heavier graphite are recommended for Hybrids so steel makes sense. proof is in the pudding. how do they play with the steel? I went back to steel iron shafts after years of graphite and I like the accuracy of the steel.

I like the feel of a steel shaft better. I can personnally hit the ball farther and straighter. Even thought about finding a nice steel shaft for my driver. Any idea's?

That might be a good idea. I used to have a Ram 3-wood with a wooded head and a steel shaft.
I hit that club waaaay better than Ive hit any graphite-shafted 3-wood Ive ever owned.

This is just my 2 cents... Steels the deal!  Most of your irons are shafted with steel, you are going after a specific distance and a controlled shot.  graphite shafts are meant to generate as much clubhead speed to "mashed potatoes" a golf ball!  When swinging a hybrid, if your replacing a 2, 3 or 4 iron, your probably going after a specific distance, not like a driver.  So my opinion is steel is the deal!  I personally have a 2 hybrid, Nike Vr Pro shafted in the Dynamic Gold SL S300, my irons are Nike Vr Pro blades shafted in the Dynamic Gold S300, the shaft in my hybrid plays very similar to my iron shafts and is lighter to keep the swingweight down, but with this said, I am a longer striker of the ball and distance doesn't phase me, I'm after controlled distance and most imortantly shot placement.  Maybe if your not a long hitter the graphite will benefit you more... this is just my 2 cents and hopefully it helps you out some!

I have a 2 hybrid (18 deg) KZG with an Apolla Steel shaft in it.

I only have one range session and one round on it.  I havent dialed in a distance but it probably goes about the same distance as say a 3 or 4 graphite shafted hybrid for me.

Although the steel shaft is I believe a firm flex which is too stiff for me (bought it on clearance for $49).  So I am thinking about either putting a reg flex graphite or steel shaft in it to bring some whip to it. It definately has a much heavier feel to it.      Off the tee it felt really good.

Really glad I found this thread. I have been thinking in the past few weeks of doing this same thing. I have the KBS Tour shafts in my irons and going to try out the KBS Hybrid shafts in my 18 and 20 degree Adams hybrids. I am also going to shorten then to standard 2 and 3 iron lengths so I can make them play how they should as they replaced my 2 and 3 iron. Right now I hit them too far.

Well I decided to pull the trigger. I found 3 essentially new KBD Hybrid shaft pulls on Ebay. Shipped to my house for $30. So this will be a cheap experiment. I only need the two longest ones for my 2 and 3 hybrid (18 and 20 degrees). So if anyone is interested in a KBS Hybrid shaft that is now 37 7/8" with a red and black Golf Pride DD2 grip let me know. I will also report back my findings and feelings with the new shafts.
