Hey guys. I'm looking for a 200 yard club that I can hit off the deck. I'm fine off the tee with my woods, but I'm having serious trouble off the deck, and I have trouble hitting my long irons. I've been leaning hybrid for a while now, but I haven't yet convinced myself to take that leap of faith.

Would a 3h be a good choice for this purpose? I've never hit one but I see Rock Bottom Golf has a TM Rescue for $69.

How far do you hit your 3h?

MY 3h is 18* and I hit 215-225.

My 3I is 200 on the nose and I made myself learn how to it. As a matter of fact it was my go to club because when I first started I was terrible off the tee and it was always a long way to the green. My 3I saved me.

$69 is a pretty good buy for that club. If it has the right loft that you think will get you the 200 I say go for it.

Jaw,

A few questions before I make a suggestion. How far do you hit your lower irons, woods, and driver? Also, are you looking for something with some offset? No offset? What about shaft? Do you need help getting the ball in the air?

I'd go with the 3 hybrid. I have a 3 hybrid and hit it about 205-210.

I hit my 3i about 200-210 when I make pure contact, which isn't all that often. 4i about 190 and more consistent. My 3w is about 220, but it's an old persimmon head and I don't know how that would translate. My driver about 260-270. I'm looking neutral, no hooks or slices in my swing. I'm open to suggestions on shafts, and yes, please God help me get the ball in the air from the deck

We have similar distances with the lower iron and driver. I suggest you take a look at the Taylormade Rescue Mid, either 22* or 25*. The stock shaft that comes with it is very lite which would assist in increase of swing speed. FWIW, the leading edge is protruding. When you set it at address, it looks as if it is the first thing that makes contact with the ball. For me, that's pretty comforting. It might be for you, too. Look for a shaft with a low kick point, too. Should help with getting it airborne, sooner. Good luck.

I just switched to a 4 hybrid, its the perfect 200 club for me. The 3 hybrid I used to have went about 210 to 215 and I needed something a little less than that.

If you hit your 4 iron fairly consistantly, and your consistancy drop off is at the 3 iron, I think the 3 hybrid would be right up your ally. And as stated above, maybe look for a low kick/high launch shaft. I'd say 3H or 7 wood. The 7 wood will probably hit the ball higher, due to a deeper and lower center of gravity. But you might see more consistancy in a 3 hybrid because of the shorter shaft. On average a 7 wood shaft is 41.5" vs 40-40.5 on a hybrid. Check them both and go with the one you hit most reliably even if it goes 205ish.

How well does choking down work on a hybrid? What yardage would I be looking at from that?

It cuts down about 10 yards for me and goes a little lower.

My 200 yard club is a 3 iron, 19 degree hybrid.

I don't think anyone can tell you what club to play unless they've seen you swing and play. Especially with the newer gear. A hybrid 3 from each vendor is going to do different things for different people. I hit my new Hybrid 5 185 the other day and couldn't believe it.

That said, a hybrid is probably what you need. We all like certain brands, but IMHO *you* need to figure out which loft. I like Adams gear myself. Enough to own a whole set. $450 shipped off ebay.

Good luck!

Well I hit my 2 hybrid about 220 so I think a 3 hybrid would go just about 200 for you.

my Adam A3OS #5 hybrid carries 190-200. i'm getting a #3 version as they're on sale for $109 at the golf store(Perfect Lies), should be good for at least getting 220-230 yds out of it. i would be a spokesman for these clubs in a New York second if asked.

I'm, just curious, but how can someone tell you what club you may or may not hit 200 yards with out seeing you swing, or knowing you club head speed. also there are soo many variables, like altitude, weather, temperature, ball being played, your swing.

I mean come on people, just because you hit a 3 iron 200 yards does that mean he will hit it that far, or short? Just because I hit my 24* hybrid 195 does that mean you will hit it the same distance? No!

As another has said 69 bux is a good price. Personally for hybrids I prefer the Nicket DX/DC. My 200 yd club is a Bridgestone Air Muscle, 21* which I call a hybrid iron b/c although it has a iron design head it is a hybrid. Not as forgiving as a full on hybrid but more forgiving than a 3i, more workable, better able to vary trajectory, very good for punch shots. They didn't gain large acceptance so they should be pretty inexpensive now. And thats my .02 cents.

Yes chocking down works on hybrids. As for distance I have no idea what yardage you'd be look'n at. Basic rule of thumb is 10 yds for every inch you chock down. Best thing to do is go to the range with it and hit full shots until you are hitting good and/or warmed up then start chocking down on it in 1 inch incraments and see what the results are. JMHO.
