Every single time I use my driver I get a terrible slice. Usually not even close to the fairway. What can i do to fix this problem!!! Any help would be great, thanks.

Dan

Please give a little more information on the trajectory of the ball and maybe your swing speed. A video would be best.

It's very hard to determine what you're doing wrong when you give little info.

1) use the tee box to your advantage and hit from the far right aiming to the left side of the fairway
2) check you grip position and change to stronger grip
3) loosen the grip pressure, especially the right hand
4) check your take away and make sure it is inside the target line and not starting from the outside
5) make sure you turn over the club face to a closed position at and after impact
6) slightly close the club face at address
7) think draw or hook
8) practice with your 3 wood, hybrid and mid irons trying to play draw shots

From looking at your 30 handicap, you're likely swinging with your arms instead of your body, resulting in an out to in swing path. Because this club path cuts across the ball, it injects a high speed CW spin on the ball, which causes the ball to shape to the right.

Learn to swing using the body from the inside, and you'll see improved results.

Ok thanks for the advice. Last time i played, I used the Driver the first 4 holes and the slice was sooo bad so I started hitting the 19 degree hybrid off the tee and at least that went straight. But I have to figure out how to hit the drive straight.

I dont try to kill the ball, I take a nice easy backswing and then come through nicely. The ball takes a line for the fairway and then slices drastically.

You are cutting across the ball from outside in. You might try to get more of a sholder turn.

It is hard without seeing your swing and set up.

How do you grip your club? Strong, Neutral or Weak? When I am slicing the ball, I have the grip adjusted to make it stronger. How is your stance/alignment? If you are open you will fade/slice. You may try to swing with a slightly closed stance. What is your swing speed? Your loft may be too low for your swing speed.

I have having the same problem with my long irons, hybrids, 3W, and driver. I've heard the advice of strengthening my grip and I've tried all the way to an ultra strong grip and it still slices. I also heard that coming over the top causes this, so I focus on turning with my hips and letting my arms lag through the shot, still slice. Lastly, I'm pretty sure I have a in to out swing path so I have no idea how it's slicing. The only thing mentioned in the above list that may be causing it for me is I may be leaving the club face open at impact.

EDIT: One thing I wanted to note is that my slice seems to get more drastic the longer the club. I start with a slight fade with my 4i, then a slight slice with my hybrid and 3W, and it turns into a drastic slice with my driver. I can hit the rest of the clubs in my bag fairly straight.

imagine a baseball field and youre at bat. youre prolly swinging along a path that points toward thrid base.
instead, you need to think about swinging on a path that goes toward first base. that will make you hit from the inside of the target line. with that, you need to release your forearms and release the clubface thru the ball.

The difficulty is, there are quite a number of reasons you could be slicing the ball. If the ball starts on the correct line and then turns right, it's probably the swing trajectory (out-to-in) that's doing it, as opposed to failure to close the clubface. If the clubface is too open, the ball will usually not start along the correct line, but will go right from the get-go.

However, the out-to-in trajectory is a natural tendency for most golfers, and each golfer has to find a way to correct it based on their own swing. For me, I was standing too close to the ball and holding my shoulders open. This meant that as I swung through, my left shoulder pulled back a lot, meaning the club came from out to in. Standing further away meant I couldn't pull the club in or it would miss the ball, and closing my shoulders allowed me to have the swing going in the right direction. But for some people it's the arms that are the problem instead of the shoulders. If you're coming over the top, then that's a totally different problem with totally different solutions. For another class of people, the problem is not releasing the club; the face does not get to the ball until the shoulders have rotated through, producing a low slice from the club trailing the body by too much. For another class of people, the problem could be one of balance; they lean too much weight forward on their toes during the backswing, meaning during the through swing their weight is falling back toward their heels, pulling the clubface across the back of the ball. So the truth is, you can't really ask someone to help you with your slice unless they can see your swing. Because almost everyone slices when they start, and there are almost as many different reasons for it as there are frustrated golfers. -Andrew

If there was a true fast and easy slice remedy that cured everyone, it's sell and make billions, everyone would golf, courses would be overcrowded, everyone would hit centerline 300ydr's. So the real reason there is such a thing as a slice is to weed the weak from the truly insane sadists who stick with the game of golf and go out every week.

Golf is the four letter word in it's rawest form. I've never cussed more at myself or an object (ball/clubs) in my life than I have in the short time I took up the obsession.

Search youtube. There is hundreds of videos about how to cure your slice, just find the one that has your problem

I have the same problem, I found out today that I am not closeing/rolling my hands soon enough, to rotate through the ball. Are there any drills or aids to correct this?

If you have to correct your hands on the down swing then you must not be doing the correct swing. If you are doing a correct swing it should come naturally

    • Day 1: After a long practice layoff due to injury, vacation, winter darkness, and work stuff, I'm trying to start back up again. Today I just hit balls with keys from my lesson 6-ish weeks ago; neutral grip and centered turn. Gonna work with that for a few weeks, see how it goes, and then get a lesson scheduled.
    • It’s not live on free to air tv in the UK, and hasn’t been since 1995. ( I pay a subscription to Sky for generally good golf coverage). There are limited highlights on the BBC for some golf events, but that’s it. Are other/all PGA events on NBC?  Allowing ticket scalping is a systemic failure across sports and showbiz, which could be legislated against, but in the UK is not in any meaningful way. I don’t know much about the secondary market in the US or anti scalping measures.  Charging more to keep prices down is an interesting concept, in practice no doubt you are right even if It sounds a bit Catch 22  Do you think sports tickets and broadcast rights  should be sold on a purely capitalist basis, or is there an argument to say that some sports might benefit more from wider exposure and affordable access. ( golf in the US is apparently not one of these if tickets sold out at those prices so quickly)  Fans might benefit from cheaper tickets and in the UK at least, TV coverage that reaches a wider audience.
