I played in a two man scramble and they paired us up with another team at the course. This kid probably 23 or 24 years old about 5'8" and 150 lbs steps up to the tee box first. A quick note its 7:45am and he is still drunk from the night before. The first hole is a 327 yrd par four thats fairly straight witha little bend to the left and the green is about 20 feet elevated. Anyway this kid gets out of the cart grabs his driver and tees up a ball and swings as hard as he could. The ball goes dead straight bounces twice and rolls into the cup. Now he didnt see any of this because he hit and walked off the tee box and sat in the cart. We start yelling and he doesnt believe us. We get to the green and hes looking for his ball and we tell him its in the cup, he thinks we are screwing with him and wont go look in the cup. After about 5 mins we finally get him to look and he goes crazy for about thirty seconds and then stops dead and looks like hes going to puke. I ask him whats wrong he replys "I didnt get into the skins game".
The kicker of the thing is someone else eagled the hole for the only skin of the outting. There were 112 golfers $20 per team for skins. Minus the few who choose not to enter the skin was worth $1060.

To bad that he didn't get into the skins game. That would have been a nice bonus to the ace.

The mysteries of golf show themselves again.

Is there even a name for that? Making hole in one on a par 4? Three under par?

Besides a hole in one on a par 5, that kid just hit the rarest shot in all golf.

Amazing. I hope he got all of you to sign something attesting to the shot. And he kept that golf ball.

Although.... imagine the bar tab on that shot. Ouch!

Yes, there is. A double-eagle, sometimes known as an albatross.

There's also a name for a double-albatross if I'm not misstaken. But I'll be darned if I can remember what it is (I want to say "condor"?). And I swear I remember hearing that it's been done once.

Serious? I thought Albatross was it.

A hole in one on a par 5?????!!!! No way...

I guess a 2 on a par 6 is somewhat feasible....

Here's what I could find:

http://golf.about.com/od/faqs/f/par5aces.htm The upshot is that it's been done a few times, on extreme dogleg par-5s, by cutting the corner.
Question: Has There Ever Been a Hole-in-One on a Par-5 Hole? Most holes-in-one come on par-3 holes, obviously. A few have even been scored on longer par-4 holes (making them double-eagles as well as aces). But has anyone ever aced a par-5 hole? Answer: Yes, it's happened at least several times. Since almost nobody - even with today's supercharged equipment - can hit a 500-yard drive, the best place to look for par-5 aces are on those par-5 holes that are severe doglegs, or are even a bit horseshoe-shaped. On such holes, an intrepid long-hitter can attempt to cut a corner or clear trees or other hazards in order to go straight at the green, rather than playing around the dogleg in a normal fashion. Holes-in-one on two such par-5s are known to have happened. One was even recorded with a 3-iron! That one was made by Shaun Lynch, playing at Teign Valley Golf Club in Christow, England, in 1995, on the 496-yard No. 17. According to a 2004 article in Golf World magazine, Lynch aimed straight toward the green on a horseshoe par-5, clearing a 20-foot-high hedge, then hitting a downslope on the other side. The downslope carried his ball to the green and into the cup. The first-known ace of this nature occurred in 1962, according to the Golf World article. "Larry Bruce took his drive over a stand of scrawny pines on the 480-yard dogleg right par-5 fifth hole at Hope Country Club" in Arkansas, and found the cup. But there's also one hole-in-one known to have occurred on a straightaway par-5. This monster drive was achieved at altitude on the No. 9 hole at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver in 2002. The shot was 517 yards in length, and the golfer who got the ace was Mike Crean. This ace is believed to be the longest ever recorded. (See a diagram of the hole here.) What is a hole-in-one on a par-5 called? "Condor" is sometimes recognized as the "proper" term, but triple-eagle and double-albatross are also correct.

Its possible.

We have a par 5 at my home course that as the crow flies is only about 285 yards to the center of the green but if you actually follow the dogleg its over 500. You can play straight at the trees and neighborhood and literally go right at the green. Its a damn tough shot requiring a high trajectory and 270+ yards but I know of some that have done it. Beyond that, you just need a little luck.

Albatross (double eagle) is when you score -3 on one hole. But lower than that (-4), I have never seen nor heard about it....until now.

Perhaps someone needs to make a new thread titled, "Have you ever had a Condor?" I bet it won't be as many as hole in ones.

While he was short by 11 inches... it was also the greatest shot I have ever personally witnessed. Last September at a best ball tournament, my company sent out two foursomes. Fairly new to the game, I was amazed by the amount of beer that the "white collar" carts were about to embark with. I being with the "blue collar" foursome were behind them (no offense intended). I don't remember the yardage, but it was a par four with a 90* dogleg right. The sign at the tee box said walk down (100 yards) and make sure the green was clear prior to teeing off.

Massive tree's and the greens keepers barn were definitely in the way of trying for the green. There was a logjam at this hole and finally "Tim" puts down his beer and gets to Tee off. KABAMM! He hits his ball with all the grace of a County Fair tractor pull tire changer and sends it perfectly over the trees somewhat towards the green... Later on in the clubhouse after dinner, He's awarded "closest to the hole"... for which he's awarded with two sleeves of complimentary balls, which was what every one was given prior to the start. He came back to the table and was disappointed at the prize (but not stupid about it) saying that was the best shot of his life... I won a stand bag, 4 sleeves of balls and an awesome windbreaker, which I'll be wearing again soon... in the raffle. I only see him at work about once a week but I still hold up my fingers about 11 inches apart each time I do. Greatest shot I personally have ever seen, to bad not a gimmee...~T

I ordered a Chicken and an Egg on the Internet, to find out which came first... I'll keep you posted!

At one of the courses I play there are 2 very short Par 4's which I've successfully driven:

Theres a course near me that has about 6 short par 4's in the 200-240 yard range. I hit my three iron on #13 which was a 238 yd par 4, and was 6 feet from the green. I still shot par anyway, but thats the closestI've ever come to to have a hole in one on a par four.
